Frances go away!

Looks like we may get lucky in S. Florida, but those in Central FL may take this one on the chin. I hope it gets close enough for some juicy windsurfing, but not too close. I think I will get all my supplies together (rum) and wait for the wind.

Lucky is a relative term. Frances is huge, huge enough that the weather forecasters in Missouri are holding out the possibility that we will feel her effects. South Florida may not take a direct hit, but I bet Frances's visit isn't pleasant, either. Hope everyone in the storm's path stays safe.

And I got a three day weekend coming up too! I am not going to sit in this hurricane magnet this time. I will pack up the bike and computer and head somewhere safe(r).

Thanks for the links, those are better than some of the sites I was using. I have a feeling we will get much more rain in SW FL than with Charley and plenty of flash flooding.
Luckily we probably won't get the winds like from Charley, the still haven't picked up any of the frigging brush on our neighborhood. Maybe they assumed there will be more before the season is over and didn't want to make a second trip!

Well this sucks. They are issuing evacuation notices all around but there is no windsurfing with barely a breeze out there. The wind will likely come on Friday night. There will be no good at all to be had out of this storm.

Here are two more photos from this morning. I have a friend at the Weather Channel who keeps posting them to another forum, so I thought I would keep posting them here.

You can probably see your house if you search here. Big Brother is everywhere.

My friend wrote this a little while ago about the hurricanes current condition.

Quote:
However temporary it may be, Frances weakened this afternoon. It also slowed down big time, from 15 mph to 5 mph.

The slowing may well continue, can't say the same thing about the weakening. It could perk up at any time, and could still reach Cat 5 status. But I thought you might be interested in seeing the latest image, and comparing it to the ones I posted earlier. Check out the eye. See that's it's less highly organized? The Hurricane Hunters actually reported that one side of the eye was open, late this afternoon. Means nothing for now, though.

One thing to consider is the damage from a slow-mover compared to a fast mover. The slow mover will thoroughly trash wherever it sits - with wind and flooding rains. A fast mover, like Charley, will sweep through, do some damage, then move on. Charley has been compared to a large tornado. But if Frances makes landfall while moving slowly, a lesser area will be damaged than Charley, but the damage will be far more comprehensive. Also, anyone living in the Appalachians should be thinking about flooding around the beginning to middle of next week.
