    The Coffee Table Thread

I have a coffee table. It must be one, because I call it one, however it tends to have more beer, juice boxes, dog spit and toys on it at any give time than coffee.

How did the ubiquitous coffee table acquire it's name and why?

    Discuss.

I've always considered our coffee table as more of a general "crap" table. When considering how often there is laptops, remote controls, beer, dinner, papers, movies, etc compared to how often coffee is on it, it hardly justifies the name coffee table.

I prefer ottomans - it's very satisfying to sweep all the carp onto the floor with one fluid leg motion. Everyone gets upset for some reason.

I put about as much coffee on my coffee table as I do ends on my end tables.

Speaking of which, have any of y'all ever put any end on your end table?

It's OK, usually the hyenas get to it before the smell becomes unbearable.

Not recently. I'm still trying to get my nightstand to work.

My "kitchen" table is for storage. For it to be a legitimate kitchen table, it would need to have chairs of some sort.

Of course. I think I've got to realign the crystals in my bedroom; the ley lines must have shifted and are conflicting with the feng shui. After I perform the exorcism, of course.

And what is an occasional chair? If it is just a chair occasionally, what is it the rest of the time?
Flying a jet is no different than riding a bicycle. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.
