no.... gave him an LG Ally, and informed him of the amount due to WVU for his 1st year's cost, less grants. He decided that getting "A"'s were not a priority and therefore blew off a few thousand in scholarships. He has a very good summer job, so before he buys anything for himself, like the "new" used car he wants, his tuition balance, dorm & meal plan, and books come 1st out of his earnings.

I DID, however, buy him new steel toed boots & a bunch of workclothes, and can't wait to send him off to work! Orientation Tuesday, and his 1st day will be the following Monday; we'll see him for a few days before he starts school in August.

I was sent up to northern b.c. where my uncle had gotten me a job in a sawmill pulling lumber on a green chain, talk about an eyeopener into the world outside of school. Worked steady from then until I retired a couple of years ago.40 years was enough of work now I do what I want not what a boss wants.Hopefully your son gets an epiphany and pulls up his socks and smartens up and does good at WVU.

fortunately, my son will have a boss who's been in the oil fields for @ 30 years, has known my son since he was born, and wants him to get his degree as much as we do.... and while the $$ is great for an 18 year old, he will make sure to introduce sonny-boy to the petro engineers who are making $1200 a day instead of $1200 a week - without the physical labor.

A particularly hard hot summer job was all the inspiration I needed to continue college.
