Lame Concerts

How lame of a concert have you been to\would go to in order to hang out with someone of the opposite sex (or same if you're into that thing)?

if someone was into music I absolutely hated, it would probably put me off them. not much I truly hate though.

if she wanted to go see a band that I wasn't crazy about but didn't *hate* I would do it. (I'm not *crazy* about Dave Mathews, but I hate rap tunes about duct-taping murder victims... no flexibility there) hopefully she would do the same for me, and I have always gotten along with people in that way. a girl I dated last year listened to more commercial country (not a fav) in the car, and I kept my big mouth shut. she's from Guyana! who listens to Garth Brooks in Guyana!! anyway, I would have gone to a concert too, just to be nice. otoh, she went to see a troupe of African Sufis (Sidi Goma) with me, which is *totally* off her map (and most everyone else's too ). it was as much prayer as music. she actually liked them!!! thought I might take a beating for that one.

that's the other thing, two people can broaden each others horizons. or at least de-sensitize each other.

I'd go practically anywhere except Nickelback, ICP, Wilco or Celine Dion.

Howard Jones in the 80s was probably the worst I've actually gone to. A little later in the 80s I was kickin' it with a girl that was into Robbie Neville. Thankfully he never rolled through town during that relationship.

I'd rather get hit by a truck. At least the nurses are generally female.

I don't care for Nickelback but I must say, they put on one of the best rock shows I've been too.

I have a funny story from the last time I was in the hospital. I love me some nurses.

I went to a Culture Club concert back in the 80's. It was so bad we left. At least it was free for me.

I also went to see an "Officer and a Gentleman" movie like three times on dates. This was the offical date movie at the time. I wanted to poke my eyes out.

gawd, I just remembered this one...

went to see reggae singer Yellowman in the mid-90's. his backing band played without him as an opener, and they were amazingly good. the HE comes out, plays a tune, then shouts out to the crowd "WHAT TIME IS IT??!!!???" I'm thinking "party time? time to get ill? time for reggae fever?"

he then yells "IT'S PU**Y TIME!!!!!" and starts to sing over a fast beat "one vag**a, two vag**a..." etc. etc. it was and is the most bizarre concert moment for me ever. WTH? I went up to my friend Barb and told her I was leaving and that I would catch up with everyone where we were meeting later.

when we met up later, I asked here what "number" he got up to... she said it was in the lower 30's. I will NEVER see him again, no matter how much I like his 80's tunes.

It is nice to know we have one less juggalo in the world. I hate ICP.

her performed in the same concert as my daughter's old music school (who were as popular as a major band in philly at that time). I mean, I don't care about being "out there"... David Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust is just fine, thank you. it's that he just has the strangest vibe. O_0

This has brought on some painful memories:

Rick Springfield
Whitney Houston
Greg Kihn Band

I almost had to go to Bon Jovi but I lucked out.

The show has a lot of potential to be worth it. Me + 3 ladies. The odds are in my favor for a good night.

On a bit of a tangent : If one were so inclined as to be looking for a girl that might end up dragging one to future bad shows. The best shows I've been to that were just jam-packed with available ladies:

Mazzy Star (pretty good crowd there)
Cocteau Twins (grand champion!!!)
