You will not regret it. Outstanding instrumentalists. great percussion section, great horns. Part of a sea change in music.

My son is 15, studies bass guitar, upright bass. He's in the EW&F, Parliament, Funkadelic, Rick James and George Clinton stage right now. Finally, my LP's have some meaning to him.

Sweet! My kids are 22 and 26, the wife and I played EW&F stuff all the time, they love it...along with David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Genisis, Prince, Queen and so on.

Other than Prince, right there with you. I play all of them on my Zune in the car. He's a huge Queen fan, and of course, one of his favorites, Muse, I think, does a lot of Queen-influenced stuff. Johnny Cash is a deity to his group, phrasing and timbre that can never be done again. I played my son the song "In Your Mind" from Dead Man Walking, and he was blown away. This is so odd...last night I played him Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak, and he quickly figured it out.... I played the bass, too, at his age, though not as well. I did get to play with Maynard Ferguson when he came to our school to teach a class...class act. Lately, I've been showing him how "tight" the 3-man groups were, like Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and he already has Rush on his mp3, tons of it. It's nice to be able to discuss anything with a 15-year old, other than his behavior.

I turned him on to The Who long ago. Old Yes stuff blows him away, especially the bass stuff. Now, he wants a new turntable. SCORE!

Oakland Coliseum, 1978, me and my roommates. What a blast. The lights went down, the crowd went crazy and the PA announced the warm-up band...Huey Lewis and the News!!!! We looked at each other and went "Who?". Well...Huey killed it...absolutely phenomenol set...and then E,W & F came on and killed even more. Great magic too....Maurice ended up disappearing and then re-appearing in a box suspended 50 feet above above the stage...it was awesome!

That was Verdine's trick when they played in Rochester. He was playing the bass all through the whole thing.
