I've been bike commuting and just riding about 20+ miles a day with a day or 2 off a week for about 9 months now. The thing is that I haven't really seen great results as in weight loss. I'm able to bike much stronger and longer but my weight likes to stay around 225lbs and my body fat around 25%. I realized since I've been bike commuting so much (and this is mountain milage) that I've been smoking a lot more pot and when I do I eat so damn much it is insane. So I finially made the decision to only smoke up on special occasions and see if my weight will change for the better. After about 2 weeks I'm down to 220lbs so I guess that's a good start. Anybody else had the same type of experience? Did it work or not?

Yes it will help you lose weight. Back when I was using it wasn't uncommon after a few bong hits to sit their and eat 4 or 5 PBJ sandwiches.
I'm all the way down to 167# from 238# at 5'11". Hows that for some inspiration!

Yeah, I've seen some of the kids who take a ton of Adderall drop weight like a crackhead. Just about the same damn crap.

I had the complete opposite. When I smoked in school I got real skinny. Once I quit, I started to bulk up more. Went from 140 to 158 in 2 months.
What's your diet like when you are not feeling the munchies?

Part of why weed makes you hungry is because it increases your metabolism (the other part is because everything tastes soooo good, even stuff you probably shouldn't eat). That means if you smoke weed, and don't overeat, or choose healthy foods to satisfy the munchies, you might be more likely to lose weight than if you don't smoke it. I've smoked (or vaporized) marijuana daily for about three years, and usually do feed the munchies with something, but I've not gained any notable fat weight (only muscle) and am holding steady around 176 lbs at 5'11" tall.

That said, I've come up with a number of other good reasons to quit smoking pot myself, and I intend to do so within the next couple of weeks.

If you don't smoke for a few months the good weed will put you right sleep! it has come a long way from it's THC values from just a few years back.

The problem with this approach is that you get drawn into a false sense of security (sorry), by your so-called friends.( like they said to me Johnny want a hit? after I drank 2 beers) Then you end up like me, past out at bar room table. Do you want that to happen?

I'm not trying to preach to you. Having fun while your young is a blast just don't take it to far. Believe me I did have a bit to much of this in the late 90's! Cocaine and speed balling you name it.

I did try going to a Phish show over at Plattsburgh, NY back in the late 90's. When I first became clean to make a long story short I fell right off the wagon. It took me one more year to get back on track.

I think you can't go to a Phish show and get some sort of contact high! With all the nitrous and skunk floating around.

My diet is pretty good, I love to cook healthy versions of food an don't really eat much red meat anymore. But when I'd get high I'd eat whole bags of french fries, doughnuts, or whatever wasn't nailed down. I seem to be loosing weight, I'm gonna start rock climbing more to get a different type of exercise.

Man don't I know it! That was a big problem is that I'm a super lightweight so I could have half a hit and get messed up beyond recognition. I know what you mean by "so-called friends." I don't have any of those in North Carolina but where I went to high school I know a couple who I wouldn't be friends with if we didn't smoke up and play halo all summer.

But, the good news is I'm doing well without smoking up. I was feeling ****ty today and just went for a 2 hour ride. I like biking more anyways. Thanks for the advice ya'll.

Blasphemy !!!!!

I think it depends on the person. Weed tends to affect everyone differently. Some a sleeping pill, some a munchie machine etc. If you can toke and not munch then I don't see it affecting your weight. If you are a muncher stop right away

Maelstrom, I still have old friends(From the days "nothing hard just some smoke") that MTB. But when they stop to take a few hits on the trail. I just say I'm going up ahead and they understand.(They know not to let Johnny take a hit. because he'll be sleeping on the trail ) I like the fact that I did keep a few old friends from my past that respect me for my choice. There like Johnny's cool don't worrier about him. He'll wait for us

It's been about 15 years since I quit. Once I calculated what I spent on pot and it totaled around $30,000! And I hear it is now even more expensive to buy it.

I live in BC. I don't have to say much about pot smokng here. I believe...in 4 years...I have met 5 people TOTAL who don't puff once in a while (not potheads but people who puff puff once in a while). most people are pretty cool and whether you smoke or not it never affects if they like you or respect you. Pot friends just don't exist (except in the true potheads) because there is nothing to hide. You either smoke or don't Its cool that they understand the affect on you and don't ride you because of it. Nothing bugs me more than pushers.

Good luck with all that! I found cutting out the beer made a bigger difference for me, but as was said earlier, it affects everyone differently...

If you stop smoking by the time your are 35 your lungs will heal 100%... after 35 you have done permanent damage. You are riding way more than me. I think you will drop some weight but let us know how much and how much your are eating. Good Luck.
