I'm a proud daddy

My younger daughter (18) just graduated high school and is headed for Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. (My older daughter (21) is in college in San Francisco.)

Here is a regional newspaper article that mentions here and has a video of her.

Congrats to your daughter....and to you. Now you can have that Den you always wanted. (As long as you leave it with a girlie decore so it can be reconverted when the daughter returs for holidays and summer.

Quite the commute for you to go and see her at college, but now you have a reason to do a trans-USA bike ride.

She's interested in everything. She wants a broad range of courses and expects to think of a concentration in due time. But she has none in mind yet. And I'm very glad about that. I think young adults try to decide much too soon.

What did you major in?

I have a BS in Salmon and a Masters of Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Salmon management and toxicology. PM me if either of you have any questions about the area... There is a great Unitarian Universalist church near the school if she is interested.

leob1, my older daughter went all the way through Columbia High School (CHS) and graduated in 2007. This daughter (Julia) graduated from the Hudson School in Hoboken. She did 11th and 12th grade there. She did 9th and 10th grades at CHS. Where are you now?

cohophysh, is there really such a thing as a BS in Salmon?!

I've been to many UU services, and I've sung in a few, too! I love it, though I've never joined.

bones_mcbones, the UU church was founded, I believe, by Christians, but it's not a Christian church. In its members, you'll find Christians, Jews, atheists and more. You're not required to believe anything, but they are committed to spiritual growth and community service. I find it warm and loving. They do not eschew scripture. I sang in a wonderful service where Psalm 23 was discussed.

Lots of good memories from Columbia. And I rode many miles around Maplewood, SO, Union, and even Irvington(wasn't so bad back then). Even did a lap or two IN Columbia(don't ask, but we had fun). I also rode my first MTB in South Mountain Reservation when it was legal. I now live in Hillsborough, NJ. Close enough to Somerville so I can ride my bike there to see the Tour of Somerville.
My eldest also graduated high school on Wednesday, so from one very proud Dad to another, I wish them luck, and hope the work hard for their dreams.

Enjoy the ride.

Noglider, you certainly do have reason to be proud. You raised a strong daughter and it's fantastic to see her be proud and stand up for who she is without fear. She deserves everything great that she's got going for her. Good on you, good on her.
