Even the frozen mango pieces you can buy in the grocery stores are tasty. They make great fruit drinks.

You most likely had a Kent variety of mango. Almost like a buttery texture. Mangoes do not grow here in Tampa but in Bradenton, Fl (northern limit) there are tons of mango trees. Bradenton is also the northern limit of the lychee as well. The mango and lychee tree grow well in peoples yards because of the overabundance of irrigation that is necessary to maintain a green lawn. Green grass equals big ass mangos. During the time the are ready to be picked, migrants will scour the neighborhoods looking for these two trees and offer to harvest. Better that than to have tons of dropped fruit falling day after day.

Some mangos are better than others. Store purchased ones are usually not as good as the roadside laces. In fact I will not eat a store bought one.

Not sure what variety or type it was. It was slightly smaller then what the store normally sells, and a bit softer. It was amazing. I normally love mangos. I f'ng fell in love with that one.

the skin of mangos has the same chemical as poison ivy. Don't get your lips anywhere near that because hydrocortisone does not make good lip balm. I haven't had a mango since then... but I'm tempted.

I don't get the mango or papaya thing... both taste like dirty socks to me...

I must be missing the "island gene" or something...
