Nice Shoes

I'm a bit of a shoe junkie and decided that if I'm in Italy, why not get some nice Italian shoes. There are several shops here right near my hotel. I've been window shopping for a few days wondering if I should really drop that much dough on a pair of hand made shoes. Well, its my last day here and I went in an they had a pair that fit. I have to say the sizing method is odd. I normally wear a 10 1/2 and these are 6 1/2. Anyway, I bought them. And love them. Anyone else have a shoe addiction?

Good dress shoes are difficult to find these days. I have a pair of high quality wing tips that I got when I graduated College 21 yrs ago. They have gone through 2 sets of heels, and I just got them resoled. The cobbler who did the work made them look brand new. He said "they don't make shoes like this anymore". No one resoles shoes(except for boots), so the shoemakers just use lesser materials that last a yr or two and throw away.

I think the shift towards cheaper production (i.e. less handwork) has created much more separation. Today, you really have to spend at least 300 dollars to get a decent welted dress shoe like an Allen Edmonds or Alden in the USA. Designer shoes at that price point are often still glued together and are built for style rather than longevity.

Thanks to online and off price shopping it's possible to get great deals on very fine shoes if you know your size and are patient.

My favorite dress shows are Crockett & Jones with some Michael Toschi thrown in for fun. A pair of shell cordovan wingtips make you feel like you could kick anyone's rear in a meeting.

Also, post some pics.

So I have been led to understand. I thought one wore them with fishnet stocking and a mini skirt though.

Nice shoes by the way. Not nice enough for me to switch teams for you, but nice none the less.

Your opinion is biased as you've clearly never seen me in fishnets.

Post pics then big boy and let's see what happens. Heck, I might switch teams, in which case I can say with great certainty that there will be a break in period.

My spidey senses picked up on the fishnet stocking comment.
To my dismay when I actually checked out this thread.

nothing beats my Allen Edmonds. Never had a pair of shoes that I could walk in for miles and never get blisters.. and they are NOT joking about the lifetime guarantee .
The Park Avenue and Malvern. I've had these for 5+. You get what you pay for.

this is much more my speed than the other thread where people compare amps to volts and such.

I'm not switching teams yet, either tho. If he could fix my AC problems, then maybe.

oh- I have some Alden handsewn shell cordovans, they're certainly nice enough. I have odd shaped feet and OTR don't work well for me; I tried Vogels and they are okay but I am waiting to win Lotto so I can have John Lobb or Perry Ercolino give me the Cinderfella treatment.
