Fb

Thinking of deactivating my account. I rarely use FB and it seems like its just one more thing to try to keep up with.

Its your job to convince me, one way or the other. Keep it? Why?
Dactivate it? Why?

I started one a while ago, but only because my relatives wanted me to see their photos and that was the only way I could access them. Once I started an account, next thing you know a lot of people wanted to add me as their friend.

Got bombarded with that - some people I don't even know. Friends of friends of friends or something like that. So I disabled it. Enabled it a little while ago and BAM! A whole bunch of people were awaiting my acceptance!! I didn't have time to go through them all so I just disabled it again and said forget it.

My friends know how to get a hold of me.

After a couple of inappropriate offers from ex's I decided to get rid of my account. I don't need the temptation in my life. I know of to many marriages that have ended because of myspace and facebook, mine is not going to be one of them.

Never joined. Decided it couldn't be worth it, didn't want some people living vicariously through me, didn't want people finding me that I didn't want finding me.

I recommend termination with extreme prejudice.

I think about deleting my account every so often (especially after they change the privacy settings AGAIN) but chicken out after awhile. It's just too convenient. I'm sure eventually I'll send out a mass request for contact information and deactivate my account subsequently, but currently I can't be arsed to do it.

OK. Pros and cons to deactivating account:

Pros: Not having creepy people you don't care about spam you for friends requests; not knowing, or caring about your friends' or relatives' (surprisingly idiotic) beliefs and political causes; NO FARMVILLE REQUESTS; no teenage cousins posting about how they're so emo right now and having a bad day; basically, less people demanding your attention. Less worry about what you said or pictures of you getting you in hot water.

Cons: No facebook-creeping your friend's brother's hot friend; missing events that are not listed anywhere but Facebook; having to actually interact with someone in real life to see their vacation pics.

Crap, now I'm convincing myself. I think it's one of those things that once you stop doing it, you don't really miss it. Like posting on BF. Just kidding, I could never leave the story thread.

I take a pretty minimalist approach to facebook. I don't play any of the games, attend events, or even bother to look at my notifications. I don't post my own pictures (I'm tagged in several, but I didn't post those), in fact I don't really use it for anything other than a glorified IM.

I've been considering closing my FB, but I started a High School page with over 80 members and that would be removed with me.

I am torn. My intent was to keep it to real-life human contacts but online people are encroaching, not that there's anything wrong with that.

And I still mostly update kid pix for the grandparents at a website hosted at our ISP.

I use facebook for a few things, mostly keeping in touch with people and finding local events (hooray for salsa and karaoke groups!). I don't add people I don't know, so that keeps it pretty good for me. I also completely blocked farmville and all the other annoying apps, so I don't EVER see those.

Hell, I like facebook. As far as privacy changes...I just don't add anything I don't want the world to see.

I got a FB account last in '08 because HR droids were looking at me slack-jawed in interviews because I didn't have a FB/MySpace/Twitter account, and actually questioned my skillset, "If you don't keep up with what is social, you likely don't keep up with the times".

So, I made dummy FB/MySpace/Twitter accounts. I ended up starting to use FB and ending up using it constantly. MySpace and the others, are still just empty, but I end up using FB almost all the time for some reason, mainly events and other stuff.

FB allows me to keep up with friends and old class mates and such. I think it is pretty cool.
