ow

so, after getting knocked off my bike by a car last April, I subsequently crashed going downhill at about 20mph a few weeks later. Messed up my right hand and elbow pretty bad...the elbow healed up okay, if a bit slowly, but the hand kept giving me grief, especially while riding (putting my weight on bars).

I finally got a CT Scan and turns out my Hamate bone has a hairline fracture at the base of the hook, my radial styloid process (in the forearm near your wrist) is described as a chronic fracture with partial fusion of the fragments and I have a tear in the scapholunate ligament.

Anyone here ever had to deal with this? I am guessing surgery is in order, just wondering about recovery, how soon you could get back on the bike, etc.

I'm guessing this means you're gonna need some help with the "maintenance". Good thing you have a wife.

If you have $24 and a 220v outlet on a dedicated circuit, I can probably help you out.

I'm afraid amputation is the only solution here.

Hey, didn't you get some useless advice from Foo when this originally happened? Like "tell your wife" and "git to teh doctor"...

-LOL

I meant mint

Just spoke to the Dr. He called it a hairline fracture, and said it shouldn't need surgery (whew) but that he wants to see me in a month, and - shudder - NO weight-bearing shenanigans till then. Translation: no bike for pgoat. For a month. You may as well have amputated my sanity....

Surgery on the hand is definitely not necessary after amputation.

If you want it to heal, really listen to your doc. Don't cheat.

No Jetskis, no bikes (and I'd stay away from the mint if you know what is good for you). Heck, playing the bass is gonna be tough (you might want to clear it with your doc). Otherwise, the surgery will keep you casted for 3 months postop.

No way can he ride a recumbent in that. Maybe he can find someone in Alt Bike to take him around in a bike chariot though............

If the fracture fails to heal the Dr. will have to get out the ol bone screw gun and that will get your attention.

This is all slow torture.Give up the defective hand and get fitted with a reliable hook and a parrot to sit on your shoulder.
