The bike farted

Yesterday, first day of school. Meaning I'm free to ride the bike without having to find a babysitter for my 4yo. Excited, I started pumping air on the tires. It's been so long that air pressure was down to 20psi. I got it to 100psi and starting dressing up. Amasingly I still fit on the lycra. And then it happened... prprpprprrrrrrrrrzzzzzzzzz the bike farted... front tire fully depleted.

After inspection it turns out there's a big crack. I need to replace it. It's kinda painful to buy road bike tires when your car's tires are cheaper than the most inexpensive 700x23c out there. :S

However, I'm extremely lucky. My road bike tires always fail @ home, moments BEFORE my epic rides, rather than 20mi away from home sharing the lane on busy street.

Heh, good thing it went before you set off.

How old was the tyre and the tube inside it?

According to my logs, front tire was last changed on Oct 30 2008, that's would be 601.28 miles ago. Can't really blame the tire.

I am sure your bicycle repair threads are just as amazing as your automotive repair threads! Indeed!

Good Lord, how cheap are your car tires? (And where do you live so I can stay away from you on the highway?) Vittoria Zaffiro's in 700x23 can be had for about $13 each.
