    Good deed do-er

I did a good deed a few days ago, I saw a crackhead selling a 2010 Cannondale 29er with a lefty fork! Get this, I gave the bastard $60.00 for it! I took it home, found the store decal on the seat post and called them up, they didn't seem to interested in getting the bike to the owner so I started scanning C-List, sure enough I found the owner! Sent him an email letting him know that I found his bike I'm sure when this guy checks his email he's going to be really happy! Update! This AM I got an email and then a phone call, the "guy" is in fact a woman! she ID'ed the bike and told me where she bought it! Long story short we met at a location that was good for us both and I gave her her bike, she looked at it and told me that nothing was missing and it looked exactly the same way she left it....in her car! It was a bit more complicated and a lot more emotional but thats it in a nutshell. Anyways she has her bike, I'm a good deed do-er. (thanks Wiz) and we are both happy. (all the while hoping if my bike is ever stolen someone will do the same for me! LOL!)

Heres the email she sent me:

    "Hello again:

I just wanted to let you know again how fortunate I feel that you came across my bike. I will never, ever forget this. Thank you so very much."

Nice! Did you get your $60 back?

I was once at a 7/11 when tow kids (about 13) were playing a video game. One looked out and said his chromed BMX was gone and asked if I had seen it when I walked in but I hadn't noticed. As I was driving home I noticed a grown guy on a small bike, yop it's chrome. I inconspicuously followed the guy home. Then returned to the store where the kid was waiting for his father. Father showed, called cops and I lead them to the house. Guy denied taking it then I said "you parked it right behind that fence". Cops look on the othe side and yup, it's there. I hate theives!

Nice thing you did there I Like Bikes and Mr. Beanz.

I once had a bike stolen from our garage as a kid. A day or so later, I look outside shop class and there is my Webco, chained to the bike rack. Since I was in shop class, we just went out and cut the lock and chained it up again with a lock I borrowed.

Then I waited until after school to see who came to get my bike. Turned out it was twin brothers that lived on the corner one street over. I wanted to kick their butts, but instead just let my parents contact their parents.

[QUOTE=Mr. Beanz;11400685]Nice! Did you get your $60 back?

Yup, she had posted a $500.00 "no questions asked" reward and offered it to me over the phone but I refused to take it. When we met up she asked if she can give me my $60.00 to which I answered, "sure." She handed me a little roll of cash that I placed in my pant pocket without even thinking of counting, we shook hands and we went to our cars, as she was getting into her car she stops and says,"Thats $100.00 I gave you, you deserve at least that." Then she quickly got in her car and drove off.

Is that when your white stallion reared and then you let forth with a hearty Hi Ho Silver and galloped off into the distance? ;-) I added this winky thing so you could tell I was just giving you a hard time.

This thread reminds me of the time I found a wallet in the park with $800 cash inside.

I thought about keeping the money rather than returning it, but then I asked myself, "What would you want someone else to do if this was your wallet?"

Then I realized...I would want to be taught a lesson.

Would you press a button for 10 million dollars if you knew it would kill someone you didn't know?

The Box. It's a full-length movie based off a short story by Richard Matheson. The Twilight Zone had an episode based on the story too. No, I wouldn't.

I found $150 once, a $100 wrapped inside of a $50. There wasn't anything else there either, just the 2 bills. I figure I spent that at least twice, maybe 3 times. How much good luck like that can a guy afford?

We recovered a guy's fixed gear a few weeks ago... when I saw the bike I had built in the hands of someone I didn't build it for I stopped to ask questions and had the assistance of a group of messengers in getting it back a little later in the day.

+1. I heard similar today. I was on the MUP when I came across a very clean grocery-getter laying on the asphalt. I was going to pass it by but then thought about keeping it for myself. I stopped and picked it up to find a cell phone and a ring of keys inside. I realized someone had dropped it along the way and would need it all quickly, especially the car keys. I started to call numbers on the telephone to find out who the items belonged to. The first number was to the owner who I thought was a friend. I left a message stating I found the bag and wanted to return. I called another person on the contact list and told her why I was calling and she said she thought she knew who I was calling. She took my number and said she would call if she could figure it out.
Rather than heading northbound, I rode southbound thinking the owner was on his/her way towards the beach. I got a call from the owner who told me she had been crying and was freaked that she lost her belongings but also happy to know that they had been found. I told her that I would meet her not far from her house to give her the bag. When she arrived she was so grateful to have her keys back. She said "You have restored my faith in mankind." I told her that it was no big deal and hope that someone would do the same for me if I were in the same situation. I thought of how sad it is that people don't do the right thing anymore instead will engage in ignoring others or keeping things that don't belong to them. I hope the woman starts wearing a fanny/hip pack now so that she doesn't lose her keys and phone again.
