I'm curious, what makes one (you?) more "real" than this guy? And why do you care if you have a "bad name."

Fail. If the driver of a Lexus drives the wrong way and hits a pedestrian, does that give all Lexus drivers a bad name?

Agree that the hipster on the bike is a jerkoff and a menace. Weaving in and out then riding the wrong way on a busy one way street. And....no helmet! Not a cyclist!

Why didn't the pedestrian beat the crap out of the cyclist. He just sorta muttered something and walked away.

Nah, Lexus owners get a bad name just because they're Lexus owners.

Probably because he was mature enough to understand it was an accident and that he was jaywalking.

Crashes are not accidents.

Although you are totally correct in that both were at fault: wrong-way-one-way rider and a jaywalker.

I'm not concerned that you care what others think of you so much as I'm concerned with the dedication to which you seem to want to judge others. Furthermore, caring about how people you've met and interact with personally is one thing because it is an indication of how well you are holding up your side of the bargain: but worrying about the opinion strangers have of a group that you possibly might be associated with based on behavior of some other members of said group is something quite a bit more neurotic.

I was expecting you to say you "care" because you're under some sort of belief that having a "good" name instead of "bad" name would benefit you somehow as a cyclist. I'm curious to know what that benefit is.

Some folks seem to think it is "safety," as if we should allow there to be any connection whatsoever between how safely a driver operates and whether the driver likes cyclists or not. People who believe such thing are providing a justification for driver behavior that should never be granted. No matter what one's opinion of cyclists, or no matter what selfish behavior by cyclists they've seen, one still has the responsibility to not harm another human being with his/her automobile. To purposefully do so would make him a psychopath, plain and simple, not someone who was rightfully angry at scofflaw cyclists.

Cyclists need to refrain from joining in ***** sessions about law breaking cyclists and their only reply to car drivers when they start to ***** about cyclists should be something like, "yeah, i can understand why that freedom of movement cyclists enjoy might be frustrating for us when we're in our cars, but we just have to remember that we chose to drive these big multi-ton dangerous vehicles capable of much more carnage than a bicyclist or a skateboarder or jogger or whoever else is operating all willy-nilly through the town, and with our choice to drive that big dangerous car comes the responsibility to do so calmly an carefully operate our vehicles to not harm anyone else."

So I don't concern myself at all with how other cyclists choose to navigate the landscape. I could care less that it might make some people out there think poorly of "cyclists". That's their problem, not mine or any other cyclists problem.

I logged onto Audiforums this morning and there were FIVE new threads complaining about road-ragers, passer-on-the-shoulders, and red-light runners. Nobody self-polices like Audi drivers. They make all other forms of transportation look guilty by comparison.

Not necessarily about this specific incident, but I love the word accident. It lets two idiots involved in a collision act and feel as if it isn't their fault.

I got hit by a cyclist like this. He was a messenger who was making a left turn (the wrong way) on a VERY active street and we collided as I crossed the intersection. I had just finished spending way too much money on a bike tune-up ($330! It was a pretty big overhaul), so I was a bit peeved. All the dude had to say to me was "At least you weren't a truck!"
