Today is Pirate day. Gotta have Bacardi and make some grog. Just replace the water that usually came in grog with orange juice and a slice of lime.

I had waaaaaaaaaayy to much Wild Turkey American Honey while camping out last night. Being buzzed + sleeping on hard ground + being on a down slope = So not a good thing.

Almost 24 hours later and I still don't feel well.

This past weekend I tried a new drink called a Basin Street. Found the recipe online while searching for bourbon based drinks.

2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. triple sec
1 oz. lemon juice.

Shake over crushed ice and strain into cocktail glass.

I did not shake or strain mine, just poured ingredients over crushed ice and stirred.

Friend of mine brought back a bottle of something clear from China that was 180 proof, at least, and hit harder than good White Lightning.........

Holy cow! I drank one glass and my legs turned into Nerf.

I'm usually an IPA man (though last night it was Stone's Arrogant Bastard Ale), but last week we went through a phase ("phase" is internet shorthand for >24 hours/<72 hours) of drinking a wonderful concoction called "The Educated Cosmopolitan"

- 4 parts vodka
- 2 parts Cointreau
- 2 parts Chambord
- 2 parts lime juice
- 3 parts cranberry juice
Shake over ice; strain into a martini glass

180 proof is higher than anything that I've heard of, but I wouldn't be too suprised. There's some pretty toxic stuff out there -- and cheap. In Beijing, you used to be able to get stuff at about 60%+ ABV in plastic bags at the supermarket. I assume they're still selling it, though I don't think I've seen it in Shanghai.

The standard firewater is Red Star Erguotou (literally "two pot head"), which is I think 56% ABV. You can get a little bottle at 7-11 for less than a US dollar.

Just did a search on their website. You can also get it in this lovely six-litre plastic jug in ABVs of 46%, 52%, 56% and 60%:
