My latest original song.

G'day. I'm posting my latest original song so please tell me what you think. Its called, We are but One. "Link removed, See below"

This song has had a difficult birth and I had temporarily linked to the first version before but I wasn't happy with it so I took it down. Writing lyrics that sound good when you sing them AND convey the meaning you want isn't easy. I was also having technical issues with the file format I was uploading.

Its a DEEP song for world peace. A bit of a heavy song from my heart man but its got a good tune. Its all part of my plan to be a dangerous subversive.

Anthony, I've only seen a couple people play instruments like that. Where'd you learn to play?
Oh, and good on you for writing....that's something I wish I could do.

Thanks MondoVincere,

I had been trying to play standard guitars for many years and had taken some regular lessons but from an ergonomic position I just couldn't get along with a guitar. My right hand technique isn't that different. I'm just doing 3 finger picking (thumb and 2 fingers) which is a kind of blues technique although its a little different because my hands are a little different to everyone else. Fretting OVER the fretboard rather than under it is the biggest difference and I had for many years tried to fret from underneath and while fretting from underneath has numerous advantages in reaching many chords I just had too many problems with doing it because of my shoulders probably more than my hands so this had stopped my from playing for MANY years.

Only in about the last 12 months or so have I really started to play again and this really came from me deciding to fret over the neck rather than under it and low and behold a LOT of the problems I had in playing disappeared.

Hey, I'm a broken record

The near perfectionist in me wasn't totally happy with these two songs so I unlisted them for a while and now I have new versions of both of them up.

The Wisdom of Ages v2, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JrYDypPkb4

We are but One v4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY2I3Xg7HPg

I had to work on making them sound better as a song regardless of lyrics. How I was singing some of the vowels wasn't working so I changed a few things around. I think they are better now. Let me know what you think.

Also I think I was trying to sing too high for my voice so I've lowered the pitch on the ukulele but I now think I need to go lower still and buy myself a baritone ukulele.

G'day. I've just posted another original song on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrDOWHFLGcw

Its called, Shine a Light.

Its a 3 chord wonder song. I was thinking the other day, I know what the world needs. Its ANOTHER 3 chord song!

No?

Oh well, it couldn't hurt.

Anyway after the debacle of the previous song I've been sitting on this song for a while and I've fully worked it out BEFORE posting it. It started out a little more "longing" (must be something about me) but I brought it up in spirit somewhat before posting it.

Thanks Shadiyah and jsharr.

I learnt to play in a more conventional way many many years ago and I tried hard but from an ergonomic point of view I just didn't get along with a guitar. Only about a year and a half ago I decided that I would give it ago again but start fretting OVER the neck. It was much better and then I just tried playing a ukulele fretting over then neck and it just worked!

I haven't looked back since.
