Sidonglobophobia

Anyone else suffer from this, or have any other weird ones worth sharing? Today I opened a new bottle of ibuprofen, which I always dread, because it means I have to mess with cotton balls, which I have an inordinately strong aversion to. I tried to get at it with a butter knife so I wouldn't have to feel it on my fingernails, but it didn't work so I had to pucker my lips up, grit my teeth and use my fingers. <shudder>

I swear if the CIA or whoever wanted to torture me, all they'd have to do is put cottonballs on my teeth. The thought of it fills me with pure horror.

My son has a friend who hates the sound of a popsicle wrapper crinkling. It is actually pretty funny to see him want but not want a popsicle.

My niece has a cottonball phobia... I don't get it. I love cotton balls! 'Course it's a phobia so there is no rhyme or reason. I have good phobias like fear of heights or clowns, something meaningful!

My best friend has a fear of cotton balls too. She says they squeak. So to squick her, when we used to work together, I taped cotton balls on all the pens and pencils. It was funny watching her trying to get them off without using her hands and also while covering her ears.

Enochlophobia or fear of crowds. I hate crowds. I avoid them as often as possible.

You're evil! Let's be friends!!

I have a friend who hates it when people crack sunflower seeds open with their front teeth. Something about expecting to see a teeth break in half and the bits go flying? No clue. But it's fun to crack sunflower seeds in front of her. She can't look at me and instead gives me sideways glances and covers her eyes. She also can't try on display shoes in stores. Instead she asks to see a new pair in her size but never the sample pair even though she's a size 8 and those are the ones typically on display.

Fingernails on a blackboard? I don't get it; what's the problem?

Pulling out the cotton ball from the aspirin bottle? Gaaa! ( But it doesn't bother me so much lately)

How did you react during the movie Elf when cotton balls were being eaten?

I pursed my lips until they were white and just sort of held on to my seat, just like I'm doing now.

I hate touching cotton balls, certain fabrics make me all goosebumpy as well...which sucked when I was a kid, one of my favourite stuffies was made of that fabric and I used to hate touching it but at the same time, loved hugging/cuddling with it.

Weird.

I hate clocks that tick really really loud, especially when I'm trying to sleep...

IIRC, they were selling little green toenail pulling gremlin repellant, x. you should buy some, as I hear that the green gremlins are under your bed, with a bunch of squeaky clean glassses full of toe and fingernails, both full and partial, packed in cotton balls.

Blimps, hot air balloons, whales... Pretty much anything gigantic that isn't stationary just gives me the creeps. I don't want to be around them.

Not a fan of cotton balls or pads...yes, they squeak...and kind of grind (?)...I don't know what you'd call that...but y'all know. I get the same feeling from thick socks...maybe wool? Give me that sort of feeling. Used to have nightmares that I was chewing on fluffy socks and would wake up with drool all over my pillow and almost nauseaus.

I also have some claustrophobia. I can really work myself into a panic just by thinking about claustrophobic situations...buried alive, car accident where I'm pinned, etc. Thought I had conquered my fear many years ago when my wife and I went on a spelunking tour in the CA gold country. We crawled through narrow tunnels into "rooms" where you couldn't barely squeeze all the folks in. Couldn't stand up or move much. A couple spots where you're crawling through openings that just seem too narrow...crap...I'm sweating. Nvr mind.

My daughter's terrified of whales. She says they're too big. Last month when that whale breached against that sailboat, she sent the photo to me with the title "Pretty much my worst nightmare!
