Gaming Systems - XBOX & Playstation

Please educate me on the advantage of XBOX or Playstation. Are they both blue ray players - PS3 and Xbox360? Looking at systems on Ebay - Playstation2. From what I've seen online or in the Sunday newspaper ads Xbox360 seems to be a little cheaper priced. Currently have a wii. Thanks

PS3 is Blue-Ray, not XBox.

Gaming wise, probably about the same. And both can stream Netflix.

No point in spending money for PS2.

xbox360 has the better games.

The only really good games for PS3 that you can't play on XboX360:
valkyria chronicles
MGS4
God of War

A small list of good games for Xbox360 that you can't play on PS3:
Ace combat 6
assassin's creed
dead rising
dead space
left 4 dead
gears of war
mass effect
burnout revenge
etc...

xbox360 cannot play BD.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but the Assassin's Creed games and Dead Space are available for PS3 too.

As just mentioned, the Uncharted games are both pretty impressive PS3 exclusives as well as Gran Turismo 5 (which will hopefully be pretty impressive with the amount of times they've delayed it).

If online gaming is your thing, Xbox Live requires a membership fee while Playstation's online access is free. Granted, some claim that Xbox Live has a more robust online playerbase/community.

I personally prefer the PS3 but, realistically, you can't go wrong with either one. If neither has exclusive titles that grab your attention, PS3's Blu-ray capabilities aren't important to you and you don't give in to the rabid fanboyism of either side, I'd assume you'd be happy whichever direction you went.

are they really?
that makes the exclusive roster a bit smaller then.

Personally, I think Mass Effect, L4D and dead rising are a MUST play for xbox360. L4D is more like a multiplayer version of dead rising, so it's entirely preference.

Now, the exclusive list for PS3 I mentioned are really MUST plays.

As far as driving sims go, Forza for xbox360 is actually out, while GT5 is still not released, but Forza was pretty darn realistic with handling and crash damage, so IMO, GT5 is not a deal breaker or anything.

I'd own both, but it's a bit costly to do that.

For me, the PS3's BR capabilities are a real bonus. But as previous post said, can't go wrong with either one...

In addition to your list of PS3 games and the Uncharted games, I'd also add Infamous (and hopefully Infamous 2), Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain and the upcoming remaster of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus combo as worthy PS3 exclusives. Both Mass Effect and Dead Rising are no longer even Xbox exclusives now that the sequels for both games are being released/were released for both consoles. I wonder if, going forward, we'll start seeing more of the console-exclusives become available for both.

One of the main reasons I bought my PS3 was GT5 (which should be out on the 24th and hopefully won't be a disappointment) and, if it doesn't show yet, I'll admit that I've always been more interested in the PS3 exclusives. With that said, I'd suggest that the OP not necessarily base the decision on a single title. As mentioned, PS3's GT5 has been mired in delays while, in the meantime, Xbox360 put out quality racing sims with the Forza line of games.

Get them both if you can. I started out with X-Box and got two Red Ring of Deaths so I said screw it, but they claim to have fixed that problem. I own a PS3 and love it, but I still look at stuff like Alan Wake and Mass Effect and want to play them quite badly. Having a Blu Ray player is awful nice, though.

You can indeed spend a thousand bucks for a gaming PC that can render graphics that are 10-15% better than consoles, you can even buy the two to five games per year that are made specifically for that level of graphic superiority, (all of them will be first-person shooters.) Most of the titles will be awful dreck like Leisure Suit Larry and Sims sequels, though.

Or you can spend $300 on a console that has way more games, motion controls, graphics that are just about as good, and you don't have to make them "play nice" with the rest of the programs on your computer.

I hear you, I bought one the same day my oldest got hers, a few days later I bought two more, one for my youngest and the other for my son inlaw, two days after that my youngest daughters boyfriend got his. Every one of them died the red ring of death! and the BS we had to through to get them repaired was more trouble than what they were all worth! I went Playstation and never looked back.

I am a PC gamer.

I usually wait a year and buy games for $20-30.

For a shooter, it's hard to beat Borderlands.

But there's a bunch of good ones, Crysis, etc

Read the reviews of Need for Speed: Shift.
A different company made this, and it's
easily one of the best racing sims.

However, for arcade driving, Need for Speed:Most Wanted is fun.

The Nvidia GTX460 1GB is terrific bang for the buck. It will push a pretty large monitor.
Because PC games are shackled to inferior game stations, the CPU simply
doesn't get pushed hard if you aren't running massive or multiple monitors.
I am using a last gen E8500. Recently my mobo died and I just didn't see a reason
to upgrade to the I7 or the AMD equivalent.

There is no single answer. But the PC is still home for adult gamers that want a challenge.
There are a wide variety of games and sims (from war sims to realistic flying sims
you've prob never heard of and more).

And you don't need to spend a bucket of dough. You can find DIY $500 game computer
websites. But a budget of a grand will allow a GTX 460.

GTX 460 around $200
Xonar sound card $70?
Intel mobo (about 85 bucks)
E8400 cpu $170
Seagate one terabyte (htye're a bit more reliable than some brands) about $100
Windows 7 (price varies)
Antec Sonata 3 case $120

I like the MS natural keyboards (about 40)
and the MS laptop mouse is fine (about $25)
a couple of dvd players (they mostly all come from the same factory) a Lite-On is $16.99 at Newegg.

If you can get a kid to throw it together, fine. I have a shop work on mine.
If you are careful about who you pick, the cost isn't bad, under a hundred.

I am a huge fan of the Klipsch promedia speakers. They are great for music as well as games and movies.

Aside from Crysis, I can play all of those on consoles, (and Crysis 2 is coming to consoles next spring.)

I play MMOS, so it is all about the PC for me.

Both my kids have xbox 360s. We have gone through a few of them due to hardware failure in the past few years.

you only need a PC if you want to play MMORPG or online RTS games.

like starcraft 2 and WoW.
but those two games aren't very graphics intensive, so that the poor can play it too.

I bought a PS3 two years ago in preparation for GT5 and only for that reason. I've used the hell out of the Blue Ray. Looks like 10 days or so and I MIGHT actually get to use it for the reason I bought it.

Umm, no.

Realistic flight sims are PC. We're talking 300 page manuals, guys.

Realistic war sims.

Internet WW2 combat sims like Warbirds.

Show me a PS3 title with a 300 page manual.

I spend maybe $100 per year on my gaming PC hardware. Still playing at 16x10 with a 8800gt I got a couple years back. Next year gonna spend a little on new mobo/cpu/ram, so no spending this year.

I just like KBD+Mouse+steering wheel(when appropriate). Not a fan of controllers or nunchucks.

Big plus on the console side IMO is multiple players on one machine if you've got the controllers.
