Do you get Black Friday off? (or, who else besides me has to work?)

I switched to a new company a few months ago (well actually my boss did and took his whole research group including me with him). I just found out that we don't get Black Friday off, which was a big surprise to me as I've always had a 4 day weekend over Thanksgiving. Anybody else have to work?

My new company doesn't give us that day off, either. I have to use a vacation day.

Yeah, unfortunately, my vacation days didn't transfer when my boss moved us to our new company so I have to use up all my newly acquired vacation days over Christmas and have none to spare for next Friday. Oh well, it's not like I was planning on shopping anyway and will probably have clear roads for a bike commute in.

Right now my wife and I both get it off, but we also don't get Columbus Day. This is the 1st gig I've had where I do get it off (one place I worked at had an extra Saturday people could go in for to exchange for the T-Day 4-day weekend, everywhere else it was vacation if I had the hours saved)

I don't ever get a day off. My wife doesn't either. The news never takes a break.

I'm at this point in my career where I'm finally second in seniority. So I get to have it off. But I also get first dibs on working on Christmas too.

I think I'll take my bike for a nice ride early in the morning in Marin. Get away from all that commercialism.

Ah, the joys of moving away from direct patient care to administration; we get Black Friday off.

I have to work Monday through Friday, period. BUT, some of the young par-ttimers fight for my holiday shifts and I give them to 'em. I don't get paid to take it off, though, so I lose two days for the T-day holiday. It's worth it, though--I get to stay home two extra days and NOT go shopping.

I understand the young guys wanting to work though--get out of family stuff, get extra pay, etc... But that part of my life seems like 25 years ago.

For the first time in about 10 years I get the day off, and get paid for it. The other years I have worked as a consultant, and if the company was close, more often than not, I had the day off, and didn't get paid either. Working on black friday, just stinks.
