Looking at the Moon

I got the kid a cheap telescope some months ago. It's a pain to look at stuff via the eye-piece. So I got a cheapo web cam and taped it to the eye-piece. It's a lot easier to look at the stuff on the laptop screen... I still need a sturdier tripod and some more practice getting stuff into focus:



One problem is that once you get the thing into view, you only have like a minute or two before it moves out of the screen again.


Or maybe I just need a better telescope than the $15.99 one at the cheapo store.

Here's a photo I took a few years ago with a 6" telescope and 2MP digital camera. After the picture loads, be sure to click on the picture again so it displays full size:

That's pretty much the picture quality I want to achieve.
