Do you return your calls/emails/mail?

I'll confess...

I usually don't. In fact, I rarely even read my voice mail. I have so many messages of unimportant/trivial stuff that I consider it a big waste of time. If you really have something important to tell me, you might get better luck calling me at work where I'm actually required to answer the phone. Or better yet, send me an IM when I'm online.

Email, please don't bother. I get so much spam that it would take me like an hour to sort it out.. so I don't.

Regular mail I pick it up once a week. I look for the most important bills, energy, water, car insurance and internet. All other mail goes into a drawer where it will stay until I get free time to sort it out (AKA 2 or 3 months).

How about you?

I've learned to deal with making these small decisions without delay. For me, it just saves time and keeps the mental decks clear.

Even though the volume is high, it does not take long to get all varieties of messaging checked, replied to, dealt with, properly filed or rejected.

I get fewer than one each of emails (I don't ever get spam), texts, calls, mail, and voicemail every day that I have nothing better to do than respond right away. Heck, my phone can go a week without ringing, a month without an email, several months without a text, and all my snailmail is junk in the first place.

No exaggeration.

I deal with it all daily...except voice mail.

Folks, if you're calling someone's cell and they don't pick up, don't bother leaving a message. If it's anything like mine, it's a complete PITA to get into an area with cell coverage when my hands are free and I have no distractions to dial the code and see who called and delete messages before listening to them. Hang up and either wait for a return call (yes, every cell phone says that someone called and who) or better yet, send a text with the pertinent info.

This. And I reply to messages as needed. They all get checked often.

I am with him on this one. Someone leaves a message I will listen to it. Usually after work, since I have no reception at work. No message, I assume it wasn't important.

Rube, no house phone so no messages, my immediate family all have cells so we can contact each other at any time so no messages there, emails I check daily but I only get three or four of those and only about two spam mails and thats no hassle at all, I don't answer my door 'cause anyone I know would call before coming so yeah.

For work I have to reply promptly.

Missed calls (I get a lot as I am often not able to answer) do not get a call back. People who leave messages get a call back if it is needed.

For email I'm a bit of a read then delete kind of guy. If it needs an action, I either do it then or I mark it as unread and deal with it later.

I couldn't disagree more!

If they don't leave a message and I saw that they called, then I figure it wasn't important, they dialed me by mistake, or they will get back to me later as I have other things to do.

If they leave a message, then I know it is worth its importance.

Also, if my phone is OFF, it doesn't tell me who called when I turn it back on (I actually missed out on a date with my dream girl because of this several years ago, but missing her call led me to my wife a short time later, so I guess it still worked out for the best).

Also, if my Bluetooth is attached to my phone at the time, calls in/out/missed don't get listed. I haven't figured that one out yet, but that is the most annoying part to me.

Oh, and I am considering turning texting off on my phone, so don't bother with that, either.

I just assume if they leave a message, they want to talk. Since I don't get many calls I'll call back anyone that calls me, whether they leave a message or not and talk in real time. Of course, by the time I can, the issue is often over. If they'd texted, I'd know that and have saved some time.
