Apple time capsule/backup disc full question

First of all, for all you Mac haters. lemme get this out of the way:

Ha ha ha, um, yeah, whatever.

I have a 1 TB iMac and a 1 TB Time Capsule, which is now full...oldest backup is from April 2009. I am gathering that the unit automatically erases the oldest backup to make room for the newest one but can I safely go in and delete some old ones?

I'm talking about just opening the backup disc, and moving some of the oldest folders to the trash and deleting them.We don't save anything manually to the TC, it's just there for full system backups.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, in term of pure evil:

Megatron > Khan (Star Trek 2, the wrath of Khan) > Apple > Palpatine > Microsoft > Lucifer > 100% Pure concentrated evil > Sony

In terms of pure evil, not very high.

In terms of likelihood of shoving ten thousand volts of displeasure up my rectum for stepping out of line here? Well, that would be pretty high.

You sure Sony doesn't belong a little higher up there?

Yes. Open up a terminal and type 'man rsync'.

If it can't find man, throw out the impostor! If man can't find rsync, then try man gcc and man make. It is truly a slippery slope of enlightenment that I lead you on.

Older backups already get deleted automatically. There's also a check box in system Preferences; Time machine, which you can check to have the computer notify you when an older backup gets deleted.

We'll probably go that route eventually...thinking about using one machine to backup the laptop too, but might just use the 1TB for the MacBook. (300GB HD)

We have that checked - so far it's only notified us a few times...it's definitely at the 'full' or nearly full point.

I would put Oracle on there, too.

I think there might have been a misunderstanding on my part, though. If it was least to most evil, (left to right), then I pretty much agree with you. But if those were greater than signs, then it's right-to-left most to least evil, and doesn't make sense to me at all. Oops.

In that case, I would put Oracle (the corporate entity) right above Microsoft, and then Ellison (the person) right next to Sony. I think Sony still wins... for now. Ellison still has time to take the #1 spot, though!

Correct. "Better" in relative terms would be the far left. So Santa Claus would be in the far left on my illustration. Unless chipcom was chopped in place. That would put poor old Santa towards the middle.
