I call "shenanigans." That cat had to have been seriously sedated, meaning something other than catnip. I'm thinking something in the barbiturate family. If I had ever tried that with any cat I've lived with, I'd have lost about 20 pounds in claw- and teeth-removed flesh. And I've had pretty mellow cats.

My cat heard the sounds, and went from sleeping to looking around with WTF look. Then I showed him the video, he was not amused. I am locking my door tonight....

I still have flashbacks -- awful, awful flashbacks -- from the one and only bath my mom gave our cat Princess when I was 10 years old. So much howling, hissing, growling and swearing. The cat had fleas too and my mom wasn't letting Her Majesty Princess Vicious (the kitty's nickname) run around the house covered in fleas. After the bath and towel dry mom did attempt to blow dry the cat. Oh no. 10 pounds of enraged fury did not like the blow drier. That's when my mom's arm was pretty much raked to pieces. Princess crawled into my bed, in a foul mood and I slept with my mom, out of fear. Although I did wake up in the middle of the night with Princess curled up next to me. Luckily that cat had a mind like a sieve, except with blow driers. They were her mortal enemies forever.

This guy is a dick. It appears he's trying to be humorous, along the lines of An Engineers Guide to Cats, or something like that. It doesn't work and he comes off like a nasty little shmuck.

For one thing you rarely have to give a cat a flea bath. Applying a flea medication does the trick and the fleas that fall off are dying, so no real concern about infestation that way. Thus I suspect he used the cat as a toy to make a cute video, which is why he's a dick.

Besides being clawed to death, I wouldn't stress my cats that way, it's just cruel. I currently am stressed out by one of my 4, the outdoor cat, that's suffering from cat bites and claw marks on his back after getting in a fight with another tom. A $300 trip to to the Vet and he's currently a very un-happy little guy and I feel for him. I stress out taking them to the vet in the first place as I'm aware that they live in fear the entire time, but usually it's necessary. Treating your cat to a bath simply to make a stupid video, seems to violate the trust you've built with them.

Been there done that Then again, mine (R.I.P. Maggie) had no-wheel-drive (no claws).

What's with the cup for rinsing?...there's an open toilet nearby. It has a built in whirly rinser.

OOOOOOOOokay....

But giving a cat a bath to help him keep clean I would think is less stressful than being an outdoor cat who is subject to attacks by other animals, the cold, risk of eating bad things such as garbage or poison, abuse by kids who taunt loose pets, exposure to getting hit by cars - thus having to go to the vet where there is MORE stress. And an upset owner who had to fork out $300. I saw no physical harm happen to this cat who was on catnip before the washing.

Crazy how my indoor cat stayed around with me for 20 years and the only dr appt he had was to get fixed when he was a kitten and his initial shots. He never even had teeth issues.

Oh well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!

We bathe our cats when warranted. Usually after a couple baths, they draw a conclusion and start keeping their little cat butts cleaner.

Oh for chris' sake. I've been giving my cat baths since I found her at 3 weeks, infested with fleas. You can't use that flea medication on kittens, and in her case I still can't use it because it makes her sick. These days she rarely needs a bath, but living with three dogs, two sugargliders and having the run of a nice big wooded metropark, every once in a while she needs a little help. Since she's been bathed since she was tiny, she doesn't mind much, let alone get all stressed out.

BTW, this is Foo....lighten up Francis

Folks, there's nothing funny or useful about this video and I won't lighten up about it and obviously someone needs to point out why it's not funny or useful, because most folks take the attitude "It's a CAT and this is SO funny, I'm sending this to my sister?. Jeez.

The guy's a comedian. He's emulating the "Engineers Guide to Cats" (which was well done and the cats don't show signs of near abuse), only this time the cat is not having any fun, and I doubt the cat needed a flea bath and there just happened to be a video recorder and camera person available. It was a setup and the cat was the brunt of the joke. Oh yeah, that's SO funny !.

As to my own injured cat, he adopted us, had lived a lifetime as an outdoor cat (he was 2 or 3 when we got him) and I and my Vet agreed, were not about to change his lifestyle, cause all he would do would be jump ship to someone who's not interested in paying the Vet bills. At least he has any number of warm spots to sleep on a winter night, sharing the house with 3 others that are indoor only, as all 8 I've had over the years have been, so spare the me lecture about how much safer indoor cats are. Been there, doing that.

As to flea baths's ?, sure when they're warranted on occasion and kittens are a perfect example, thought hey do have flea medication for prescriptions for kittens 6 weeks or older. I've had to bath a cat, but cleaning out a stinky butt is not one of them. It's easy enough for two people to do and lest face it, cats hate a full bath so why bother.

Happy Turkey Day in the mean time.

SB

The goldfish would be terrified. But the cat doesn't seem to be. Although I'm sure somewhere in this video, if we juuuuust keep looking, we'd find some kind of abuse in there. Somewhere. SOMEWHERE. or maybe in the imagination...
