Mutant Fish from my pond

Hardcore rednecks can't identify this fish I caught.
Best guess is that it is a bream/bass hybrid, or a legendary fish called a Warmouth.
Any one have a guess?

warmouth for sure. did it fight like all get out for it's size, or is the water too cold for much of a fight?

could also be a rock bass, but the back of the dorsal fin needs to be very rounded, more so than a warmouth

It did. It even jumped twice. I caught it a few weeks ago when the weather was warmer.

We have some warmouth in the creek at the end of the street. Fun fish to catch.

I think Warmouth for the win.
We've never had warmouth in the pond before, and we're at the top of the stream. I wonder where in the hell it came from?

Eggs stuck to a wading birds legs most likely.

We do have a blue heron that visits most mornings. Bet he's stork so to speak.

jsharr 01-07-11 04:15 PM

yep.

I'm saddened at the lack of mutant on that fish. I was expecting something more... mutant-like.

And I thought all the time I spent fishing with my brother over the years was wasted. My older brother taught me a lot, now that boy can fish.

Grew up with a fly rod in my hand. Never really fished with anything but.

We've got us Asian carp up here, they jump out of the water on their own.

Allen 01-07-11 05:36 PM

That is the famous blue bellied red eared shellcracker. Its very rare and usually associated with nuclear power plants. Is there Uranium on your property?
