Incorrect.

Google will rue the day. ATT will rue the day. You shall all covet my new iPhone 4. Your own personal rue is not my concern.

There's enough rue in this post to start a gallon of gravy.

I'm still trying to figure out why I might want a phone with connectivity to the internet. I care more about the alarm clock than the internet on a portable device.

CDMA can not do both simultaneously. It's a limitation of the protocol. No "new stuff" will fix this.

With LTE, however, they can and will be able to do both. ATT and Verizon are both going with LTE as their 4G system.

While it may be an iPhone 4 for CDMA, I'm pretty darn sure it won't be a 4G phone.

Doubt it. If Apple slaps a phone on Verizon, it will use LTE or LTE Advanced, and not US CDMA. The CDMA networks in the US are broken implementations because they don't use a R/UIM card (the CDMA networks in China, Japan, Korea, and a lot of Asia do.)

Unless the iPhone is using LTE, Apple is taking a step backwards to a dead-end technology, and Steve isn't going to have that happen. CDMA is a dead end when it comes to protocols, and everyone knows that.

Will there be a CDMA iPhone? Perhaps for Asia-based countries where CDMA is in common use. Would there be one just for the US? Nope. Apple would sooner put out an iPhone using AMTS (analog cellphone).

So, in summary, we are almost certainly not seeing an iPhone for Verizon no matter what the rumors say, even if they are "reliable sources". If by chance we do, it will be a LTE device. If by chance I'm wrong and it is CDMA, it will be a phone for Asia with a R/UIM card.

Apple isn't going to blow the time in the middle of a product cycle to engineer a second set of iPhone 4s for a dead-end protocol. Instead, if CDMA was a necessity, it would be in the iPhone 5 as another radio band.

Then what do you think Verizon is going to announce at their huge media event tomorrow?

Hmm, then the market will be flooded with discarded Android units. Time for Mr. August to score the cheap upgrade!

We will see tomorrow. Apple is also making an announcement (although this part of the year they usually refresh the Macbooks), so I could be wrong. However, I will be VERY surprised that Apple would be engineering to a backlevel, obsolete technology (CDMA), just as I would if Apple started putting 50 pin Centronics connectors for parallel printers on all their laptops.

I wouldn't complain though. Competition is a good thing.

Apple's big announcement.

Well, it's Tuesday on the east coast, and Apple hype is in overdrive yet again. Some people think it's a deal with Verizon, but here's the scoop.

Read it and weep.

That isn't an Apple product. Lots of products use "i-" in front of them; not just Apple's.

The "i-" stands for "image" (although supposedly Apple took ownership and claims it meant "internet" at first but now "individual"). But I remember standing at an iBank at the Mall of America millions of years ago and they had this whole article about the explosion of i-products and what that meant as meaning "image", etc.

Temporary. The LTE network version will probably be out within 18 months.

Apple really had no choice. The absence of the iPhone @ Verizon was allowing Android to get too much traction. This will really put the brakes on Android for a while.
