It took me two hours to realize my post makes no sense now that the threads have been merged!

Thankfully, my posting stands alone on it's merits.

VZW got you too.

Obviously, though, gaining additional layers of crustiness with each passing year, I remain safe from the threat of web-enabled mobile devices.

I'm such a marketing sucker. Yesterday I was counting the months until I could throw my smartphone across the harbor and today I'm getting on the list for a new iphone.

I will take anyone's droid off of their hands free of charge once they get their Verizon iPhone.

That's right, I will not charge you anything to take your old phone off of your hands.

Follow the $$$$$. Once everyone on AT&T has an iphone (or two) that wants one, where are you going to go for more customers? Hmm... Verizon, perhaps?

Good thinking, I better be an early adopter for a change . . . a no-brainer since it's an Apple product.

Google Maps and email are enough to justify paying for a data plan for me.

I could make a long list of apps that use data that have added some type of convenience in my life.

Oh yeah, it will work. It won't stop Android, just slow it down. Ultimately I see Android as the Windows of smart phones, with the bigger market share, and Apple as a smaller player. But instead of 10% of the domestic market (which Apple currently has in computers) I think in the mobile space Apple could be as high as 40%+. Maybe higher if no credible competitor for the iPad emerges, and that's quite possible. Even if a good rival tablet hits the market, I don't think you'll see it until 2012. By then the world will end anyway. Hopefully before the opening day of baseball season (I'm a Mets fan).

To you perhaps. Not to me. I'm quite good at not getting lost, and I spend far more than enough time tethered to the internet already without dragging it around with me everywhere I go. I have found that I will not die when I am away from things.

The VZ iphone comes w/ mobile hotspot for 5 wifi devices. So you could cancel your internet subscription at home and just use the iphone tether. Depending on what you have now it might be faster or slower.

I don't think anyone would die from the lack of much at all, including a cellphone all together.

And it's not about getting lost, it's about travelling out of town a lot and having the convenience of being able to find a ____ when the thought pops into your head. You can do that without Google Maps, but nothing will beat the speed or efficiency of me pulling it up on my phone and getting turn-by-turn directions in a matter of 60 seconds.

I have that on my Android and the problem with it is other people besides me use the internet and when I'm gone, no internet. When I moved to my new place I used my phone for internet for two weeks. I thought it was the best idea I had ever had but I had constant connectivity problems.

I spent 10 days over the holidays without access to a cell phone or the interwebz while visiting family and I didn't die. In fact, given that I'd printed out directions from google maps before I left, I didn't really even miss it. It was kind of depressing to go back and suddenly be accessible to my work on nights and weekends via e-mail (still only have a throw-away pay as you go cell phone and none of those punks know the number to that).

On the other hand, got an ipod touch for Christmas. Not really sure what all the bother is. Sure it's a neat little toy, but I would have liked a radio instead of all the other extras I don't use but take up valuable memory. Still, it is a nice toy and having an extra camera always on hand is good. Oh and Angry Birds. Man, that $h!t is awesome.

I actually enjoyed my break from a cell phone last time I had one. It was very refreshing.

As much as I'd love to dump AT&T I already have the iPhone 4 so I'll probably wait for the Verizon iPhone 5. I really hope the Verizon iPhone 5 is available in six months.

Don't bother until you can be sure that it'll do everything that your AT&T iPhone does already, most notably data & voice at the same time. Despite what I posted earlier about CDMA being updated to gain that ability, it looks like it hasn't actually happened yet.

I don't actually care about that, in 2 1/2 years I don't think I've ever used that functionality on my iPhone. I know from personal experience Verizon's network drops far fewer calls than AT&T in SoCal.
