Cleansing

There's this memorable Lance Armstrong quote where somebody asks him if he rides his bike for the pleasure, and he responds that no, he does it for the pain, that the pain is cleansing. I agree. Cycling isn't fun much of the time, it hurts too much. It's actually like getting sandblasted from the inside out. Mentally and physically. That's why I do it.

"Fun". Get serious. There's no fun in cycling. As if

Anyone else find this trend of replying to one's own post multiple times tiresome?

Lifes too short to be miserable. When I find my legs aND BRAIN TAKING ME TO LEVELS OF NO FUN, i SLOW DOWN, BREATH EASIER AND ENJOY THE RIDE. i NEED TO REMIND MYSELF, A 57 Y.O. MAN WITH AN ARTIFICIAL HIP THAT THE HEalth benifits can be accrued with a gentler ride. I have to work at it though. My naturl inclination is to push to the no fun level.

This was exactly my frustration with cyclocross with this being my first season. I was too unsure of my off-road and mud handling abilities that I never got to the point of pushing towards pain. Ended up being a fun season, but never gave me the physical outlet that my mental psyche needs. So now it's back to road racing this year after 3 years off.

Try racing track during the winter. That'll hurt you.

Just because I agree with his cleansing statement doesn't mean I'm a Lance Fanboy.
