Do humans really truly learn from their msitakes?

as in the one I made in my title! LOL! Seriously though, why do I ask this? I personally have many many reasons but I'll go ahead and post about this one thats being repeated by MY family. Most of you long time members remember a post about family members that are drug addicts and seem to be beyond anyones help? If so you remember my nephew that was shot (once in the head once in the neck and once in the chest) and killed during a drug deal. OK, then you guys remember I have another nephew thats going the same direction 'cept he's the drug user not the seller. Well the little dip **** calls me up last night around 11:00PM drugged out of his mind asking for my dad? The man doesn't live in my house! matter of fact my nephew and his mom (my sister) live with my dad! My sister and my father know he's using but as in the case of my now dead nephew they still treat him like a baby and supply him with cash! So apparently the money that my dad gave him for school (which I told him NOT to give him) is being used for drugs. (big surprise ) Now this is the thing, my dad calls me up this AM and ask if the wife and I want to go along with my brother and his wife (and my dad) and spend the day in AC. I'm like "cool" sounds like a plan. We all get ready, I start up the family van and pull up in front of my dads, the whole family loads up and I hear my brother say to my father "Wheres Lou?" (my nephew!) I see my dad hold his finger up to his lips and gives my brother the universal "Shhhhhhhh!" sign! I turn to my wife and quickly let her know that I'm not going anywhere with the little piece as I had had enough of his **** during the phone call, but I tell her to go and try to have a good time. Then I turn to my dad and let him know that I didn't appreciate his little "surpise." So as I start to leave my dad has the ****ing nerve to tell me I have to change my ways! I'm going to end this with a very short version of my reply, "Pop, go **** yourself dude!"

Put your Nephew on the TV show Intervention. Maybe we'll get something funny out of it like the Epic Cry episode.

Nah, he's not the crying type, but he's great at ignoring advice, even though the only person he USED to get advice from was me.

A famous quote from Shaw (a paraphrase of Goethe): history shows that no one ever learns from history.

Enablers will not be any help to drug addict in the long run. They need to collectively kick his ass.

OK, so YOU have to change YOUR ways, and enable a loser, help him kill himself and devastate the entire family?

I don't think so. You said and did the right thing.

You may feel some guilt, that's okay; only perfect people never feel guilt or question themselves (and I don't know any of those, just a few who THINK they are...). Just know that you didn't do wrong here.
