You taking the train out to p-town or drivng? If I was driving, I'd leave now, traffic.com is already showing the dreaded yellow and red on the Kennedy and the Ike outbound

metra thankfully, so it should be fun. I'll leave a bit early to get a seat

--edit- my co-worker had the right idea 40 minutes ago... winds are now 20mph and gusting to 40.

That sucked. The metra station was a zoo, they were just packing up a train and then sending it out for all stops once it was full (often before it was scheduled to leave). I left 1:45 earlier than usual and only got home 10 minutes earlier. I heard someone threw a punch trying to get on a train but no stampedes.

At least you have trains. Buses here called it quits early and have already stated they ain't even gonna try tomorrow. We ain't used to this much white stuff all at once- state, county, and city governments all told their workers to stay home today. Temps aren't supposed to get anywhere near the high side of freezing until Saturday.

this is nuts!!! 50mph gusts, 3" an hour snow coming down, and Lightning... yes lightning. A street light came down a few minutes ago and watched the street sign break off the pole and fly away. I have a 4 foot deep snow drift just outside of my garage door. The neighbors front first floor is covered in a drift about 5 feet deep and can't get out of their front door. Hard to believe there is still hours to go.

I've never seen snow and I have some questions...

What you do when you have 5 feet of snow blocking your door and can't open it? Are houses built with some doors opening to the inside? You get out trough a window? Make a hole on the roof?

Ummmm, right now in Queensland one of the biggest cyclones in recorded history is hitting the coast.
You may want to have a look at this comparison to understand how devestating this will be.

Just before the snow started to fall here, we had a thunder sleet storm...

Sucks being stuck at work; sucks even more being stuck at home- when the paycheck is already tight...

Its cleared up here and the sun just came out.

At least we have a snow removal company to take care of this... this is my neighbors house. I got lucky and don't have any drifts blocking my front door.

one more.. they got to put the snow someplace and its piling up!
