Family Day, eh?

This company I deal with in Canada is closed today for "the Family Day holiday". Never heard of it, what am I missing he asks leaving the door wide open for the usual answers....

You Canucks and your holidays. Between Boxing Day, Queen Victoria Day, Thanksgiving in the fall, Easter Monday etc... you sure do get the time off. I guess we've got more to be jealous of then good beer and slightly better/much cheaper medical care. Eh?

Here in Alberta it was brought in by the then Premier after his son committed suicide.

As a federal employee I don't get it off, depends on who you are employed by whether or not it is a stat holiday.
