Verizon wireless -incompetent tech support warning

I called Verizon wireless tech support because my droid pro crashes about twice a day.

The verizon wireless android hardware tech support person deleted all of my voicemails.

I called back and was told that he "reapplied the voicemail feature" -- a feature that was never mentioned by me or the tech support person during the call.

There was never a problem with my voicemail. It is a faulty touchscreen.

Verizon customer support says "sorry" but they can't explain how this can happen. And oh, by the way, all my voicemails are gone and can't be retrieved. Sorry.

Be careful if you call verizon wireless tech support for any reason. Their tech support people are idiots who have access to make unauthorized changes to your plan, and even the supervisors I spoke to say they can't say for sure who made the change or why.

At this point, after being a verizon wireless customer (bell atlantic wireless before that) since the late 80s, my level of trust for verizon wireless has gone to zero.

They have put idiots in a position to wreck your account without your authorization, and all you get is "sorry" from even the supervisors you speak to.

At least they said sorry. I left Sprint when their customer service was outsourced to Asia a couple of years ago.

I forward all my voicemails to my email just for this reason. Can't trust anyone.

And you can't really trust your e-mail either. Although thankfully, like voicemails, emails generally don't get deleted by admins/tech support. But calling an admin/tech support into investigate any emails, voicemail or anything directlyl or indirectly related to it increases the chances of stuff disappearing by 3750%.

These statistics are backed by absolutely no actual science and merely are observations based upon the world assigned a random number to denote significance.

I wish I'd done that.

I lost some business voicemails, including a sales lead from last week. And I also lost the first voicemail my son ever left me back when he was 4 years old.

Verizon's responses to me reminded me of the famous line from Animal House: You fcked up... you trusted us!

In another call to their tech support, they now claim that I called on February 25, 2001 (yes, 2001, a decade ago; I asked them about 5 times to confirm that they said "2001") and told them to remove the voicemail feature from my line. Then, 10 years to the day, on February 25, 2011, I called and asked them to put the voicemail feature back on my line.

So to net out verizon's official response: I have not actually had voicemail for the past 10 years-- the 19 missing voicemails are a figment of my imagination -- and it is, apparently, a coincidence that I called 10 years ago and removed the voicemail feature, and then called exactly 10 years later to have it put back on... by the android hardware tech support person, who I was calling to try to get a freaking warranty replacement for my feaking P.O.S. droid pro brick!!!

So I'm wrong.

At least with email we use exchange server with message mirroring, so verizon can't mess that up.

Switch to using Google Voice for your voicemail if you can with Verizon.

And when Google is too big they will collapse, just like everybody else. I'm not sure why everybody on the face of the planet is doomed to blindly jump off the same cliffs everybody else has jumped off, repeating their mistakes, their ancestors mistakes.

I archive all my email crap to a local PST file and then dump a copy onto a backup server.

That is what I call "TBTF".

I was wondering why I seemed to be getting fewer spam emails for \/I@gra and C!4Lis today.

It was really nice when 3-4 of the largest spam networks went silent for Christmas and the following half a month or so.

The amount of spam received literally dropped by 80%.

Alas, it was short lived.

Or the part where they should have them all restored from backups within 24 hours?

AT&T sucks too. I stopped receiving voicemail messages at some point. People left them and I showed a missed call, but no voicemail. When I called to fix it they swore up and down that nothing would happen to my current ones when the correction was shoved down....they were all deleted, and I never did get to hear the ones that never showed up. I didn't even get a "Sorry", I was told that it was my fault for not saving them externally.

Happens to all big people. That's why people that create Service Orientated Giants out of Microsoft, Amazon, Google, ATT, Verizon, etc are simply setting themselves up for more big problems.

Not to defend them, but I've found over the last 15 years or so, their CS has become pretty darn good. Sure, you get the occasional moron (or should I say moran?) that I can't even begin to fathom how they got the job, but I guess that applies anywhere.

Either ask for a supervisor or make some excuse to end the call and call back later when you know the idiot won't be there.

Just tell them you want a replacement phone because yours isn't working. It may take a while and you may have to work with their tech reps (the ones who actually know what they're talking about), but eventually you'll get a fix or a replacement. I wound up going though this with my Droid 1 after the software update caused it to lose wifi. Everything else worked OK, but they couldn't get it to work and I ultimately asked for a new device (D2 or DX) and they agreed. My experience with the moran came on that last call when she tried to tell me that the device wasn't supposed to do wifi! I didn't last long talking to her!

As soon as you people realize that suckage is all pervasive and does not recognize race, gender, religion, socio-economic status, or any other means of discrimination, then you will all be much happier. Everything and everybody is full of suck in this world.

An update to the Gmail loss of data that affected only 0.8% of google's users - coming out to an estimated 1/2 a million users.

They are still without their e-mails 2 days later.

I feel sorry for any businesses who were using any of the following google services affected as they are probably now operating blind.
