Employee Assistance Programs

Does anyone actually call those 'hotlines'? And just how anonymous are they?

Thinking about hitting them up for some mental health, but don't want that to become common knowledge in the real world.

(Hint- [via Wall post] 14 yr old has started using Zoosk...)

You and MP should hang out and discuss your kids' relationship issues.

(I'm so naive, I had to look Zoosk up)

They're supposed to be completely confidential.

That's what they say, but I want to know how the employer gets billed? Hell, given the current financial position of the company, this benefit may not even be on the table any longer...

I used EAP in the past when I was going through my divorce. I would think the employer pays a flat fee for the services, I don't think they get billed for individual usage.

At my previous job, a well-liked director passed away suddenly. The company had EAP representatives onsite for people who wanted to talk to them, and they encouraged everyone to call the EAP 800 number if they needed to. I don't think they would have suggested that if they had to pay for each person's call.

Just send Zoosk an anonymous tip that she's not 18 (required by their TOS). That ought to take care of that problem. But then you need to sit down with the kiddo and have a serious talk about predators and whatnot.

One might also want to inquire the reason they are on said site before bringing the guns full-bear. Quite often younger kids join for reasons other than 'dating'. E.g. Quizes, etc.

I'm pretty sure it would violate HIPAA privacy laws if they even mentioned you'd received services, so you should be okay.

Pretty positive they are 100% confidential. Good luck. I'd advise a talk with the teen too.

Sent the e-mail before posting here. Got a bot response stating that I should read the FAQ's. I could get a human response if I were to become a Premier Member.

A physical face to face ain't possible, since she's the one who moved back to her dad's in NC.

I suspect she just 'back doored' it by going through Facebook.

I think the only time EAP's break the confidentiality barrier is when you're threatening to do harm to a co-worker (found this out when a former co-worker of mine told the EAP guy that he wanted to brain our boss with a Crescent wrench). Contrarily, when I used EAP a bit ago, no one knew about it...um...until now...dammit!

Regardless, I'd suggest using it: It's a bene and it's there for you to use.

Also, I had to look up Zoosk, as well...

You are covered by HIPAA rules. Absolute confidentiality outside of the above circumstances, or if you are threatening suicide.
