Getting into grad school

I'm considering applying to grad school for economics the year after next, taking a year off between undergrad and start of grad school. My concern is my GPA, which is only a 3.0 (exactly). Within my major the GPA is more like a 3.5, but I don't think that carries a lot of weight. Otherwise I expect to have a very strong application, including 3 letters of recommendations and awards for my senior thesis here. My question is, if I was to take graduate level courses (or maybe more higher level undergraduate math, ie. real analysis) at a public university, would it at least partially supplant my GPA as an undergrad?

In my experience, no.

Which is not to say you shouldn't do it, learnin' is learnin', and anything you can pack in before school can free up schedule time for what you're actually there for. If the program you enter will let you count those classes toward prerequisites they had you booked for.

Wow, congratulations. Impressive accomplishment!

[edit] thought I replied to your post ... but then it disappeared. Either way, congrats.
