    It's all Seattle music day...

Today in history, Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley died. Our local rock station is playing nothing but NW "grunge" era music. Hearing tons of stuff that normally isn't played much on the radio.
While I have zero empathy for a couple of druggies who killed themselves with their addictions, it's pretty frickin' sweet the kind of tunes that are getting played today.
Soundgarden, Nirvana, AIC, Mudhoney, Melvins, Tad, Pearl Jam, etc.
I may wear flannel to work to celebrate.

That sounds like an awesome day on the radio... other than I hate Nirvana. The rest of them would make for a nice 24 hours though.

    They're Australian...

I'd take Stone Temple Pilots over any of them though. If I'm not wrong, they're from San Diego.

Correct on both part. STP was always called a rip off of Pearl Jam. Not a fan of either other than a couple of songs.

Add to the list today: Screaming Trees and Mother Love Bone. My office doesn't get radio reception so haven't been able to catch much. I'm going to the station website see if they put up a playlist.

I've never really seen the similarities between the two. I've always felt like people were being elitists trying to keep STP from being lumped in with the Seattle bands. The solution was just to call them a ripoff. Songs like Silvergun Superman, Sin, Meatplow, and Down are no where feeling like a Pearl Jam ripoff.

I have ridden my bicycle past the former Cobain/Love house many times on a gorgeous hill with a view right above Lake Washington. A few years ago, the current owners petitioned to have the address house number changed, in an attempt to foil all the people who were making a pilgrimage to the death site. The photos taken by the medical examiner went viral and I think can still be found on the Net.

They are focusing on the "grunge" era. Queensryche was never considered grunge nor did they get lumped in the with hair bands. First time I saw the video for "take hold of the flame" on night tracks I was hooked as a fan.
Go to www.kisw.com and look for the playlist in the upper right hand side. Awesome list of tunes they are playing today.
