If you love me, microchip me.

My cats are indoor only. My dogs are indoor/outdoor. Mitzi got out somehow during the storm 1.5 months ago. Despite all efforts of placing lost cat posters, going to local veterinarians with her picture and notifying mailmen and knocking on doors, we had accepted the fact that either she was picked up by someone and is being taken care of or has met with unfortunate circumstances.

Today I got a phone call from a local vet who said that an elderly lady came into their hospital and wanted to get a cat that she found checked out because she was so skinny. The veterinarian scanned for a chip and it was led to me.

Picked up Mitzi earlier today from the elderly lady's house and when the lady brought her to the door she was fighting the lady trying to escape her hold. As soon as I called her name, she calmed down immediately and did not fight when I held her. The lady had her for four days. I have no idea how she survived all this time, she doesn't know how to hunt or fight. Mitzi is VERY skinny and skittish, way different from the above picture, but otherwise she has no injuries. Brought her home and she ate right away and then went to her chair and settled down. I gave the lady a ton of thanks and a nice reward.

Microchip your pets everyone. When all hope was lost, I thank God and the inventors for this wonderful rice sized hero for the miracle that we had never thought possible.

The micro chip brought Abraham home.
He went missing during a snow storm this year and showed up several days latter and a few towns over. He was still wearing his collar but his tags had been removed. The chip is the only way I got him back.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Annie is also chipped. We had the vet implant one when she moved in with us.

We had our greyhounds chipped. When they run, their heads whip up and down so hard they throw their collars off. Greys have powerful necks and little bitty heads, so collars can drop right off. The racing ear tattoos fade with the years, so reading is damnear impossible.

One of my pups is, one is not. Good suggestion. I'll get my big boy chipped next month when I take him in for shots.

AFAIK, if he crosses the Texan-US border and gets caught, the government will microchip him for free

One thnig to add. If you move make sure the chip information gets updated.

Our dogs are chipped. Actually the second dog's chip is NOT in out name. The shelter we got her from chips them all and the chip info points to them. I'm fine with that because I've seen how they do things and have confidence in them. (And the best chance for one of ours to get out would be when we are on vacation and others are taking care of them).

I mention updating the info because we found a small dog out in our area, here that is a death sentence. (for small dogs, not ours). My wife took him to the vet to check if he was shipped. He was but the address was a PO box over 100 miles away. We did a trip through the neighborhood and put up found dog posters. When we were on the last legs of the trip (and the dog) we met a guy on a bike who was actually part of the staff at an assisted living house. It was an old lady's dog.

Postscript. It tok me a couple of days to get the posters down. I got a call form the person who had saved the dog the previous time it got out.

That dog was twice lucky, it might not be the third time.

Oh and if you do chip still check the pound. Early out our 2 escaped, got picked up and even though both were chipped we got no call and they classed them as dangerous. (I don't think all the staff exactly agreed with that acessment).

I'm going to talk with my vet when I take them both for their shots in a few weeks. The big cat is a feral, but extremely timid - and Ming has only been outside in her cat carrier --- both would freak and I would most likely not ever see them again if they got out. And with a move in the future and a new place - too many bad elements They will be chipped. And they already have collars (which they hate) with my name and phone number on them too.

Our cats have never been chipped, and we've never had any issues with them during their long lives.

Our next cats will be chipped, even though they'll be indoor-only cats. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you take your pet to a British vetrinarian, be very specific about your desired end results. Sadly, I was not clear, but I must say, Flipper turned out fine. Glad I splurged for the expensive fish flake now.

My doggy is chipped, but the cats are not. I assumed they'd be ok since they're mostly indoor (outside time is supervised now) but...yeah, better safe than sorry!

I'd read that early on people who had had their pets chipped that the chips had a habit of migrating, and/or causing cancer or other health problems. Do any of that still happen?

Is it done with or without a local? Can it be felt by running one's hand over the animal where it was chipped? Of the four critters that I have that are most likely to "escape" only two can never ever be chipped as it would be a death sentence for them. Those are my T's, I would get my 'Tiel and my kitty chipped if I could be assured that the chip wouldn't migrate or cause other problems down the road.
