I haven't fished in years. Last time it was grouper and trigger fish. We had a school of mahi mahi come to the boat, but I got skunked with those. The rest of the family landed about 3 each, though. Natch...I'm a good luck charm, but rarely catch anything other than scorpoion fish myself.

Nice. Bass with a fly rod. Good combo.
I'll be heading back to Canada this year for my every other year halibut/ling/salmon trip.
Last time we caught twin 115 lb 'buts within 5 minutes of each other. When I get home, I'll put some photos up. We generally average near 700 lbs of tasty goodness between the 3 of us each time we go up there.

Think it is a smallmouth. See how the mouth-line does not end UNDER the eye.

    I don't think so.

Pompano only have the rear dorsal. Jacks have a front and rear.

You cannot tell where the mouth line ends with it's mouth open, but the lack of vertical stripes on the body would lead me to vote for LM over SM.

I like to catch me a 1-2 lb catfish then immediately get home and steam it or fry it. Fish must be fresh. The fresher the better.

I fish backwaters of the Mississippi. Some reports say the fish are cleaner than farm raised because ponds can accumulate mercury.

Went fishing in Tamarack Lake, PA today. With nightcrawlers I snagged crappie, perch, and my girlfriend caught a small mouth bass.

I'm going to do something crazy tomorrow.
And if works it's going to be a new fad.
    Tenkara goes salt water.

Alright, I have this antique bamboo fly rod that is about ten and a half feet long that I bought a years ago for twenty five bucks. It was in rough shape for fly fising. The guides were rotting off but the wood is in good shape, so are the ferrels and the tip is ok. And I took the guides off and used it like a cane rod for a long time and then read about Tenkara--Japanese fly fishing. Basically you rig the rod with a piece of fly line the length of the rod and then add a 3 or so foot tippet.

Usually tenkara rods are about 12 to 15 feet long and are used for fishing small mountain streams, but I've got what I've got and it's a great rig for plucking bream and the occasional bank running bass out of the pond.

I'm going to go after sheepshead with it. You fish sheepshead about the same way one fishes bream. You put a fiddler crab on a hook and throw it next to a pier pylon or jetty like it was a cricket or red wiggler; feel for the strike and set the hook.

Yep, Japanese mountain fly fishing is going salt water tomorrow.
Be back with pictures of fish or a broken rod, time will tell.

I heard the pike are now in the shallows at the reservoirs I frequent. I think I'll be heading there this weekend.
