My latest restoration, a seven foot bamboo spinning rod. The rod was in good shape when I got it but someone tried to sand the grime off the grip and did a pretty manky job, so I wrapped it in rattan and then flamed it to match the blank as well as I could. The wraps were in good order but showed some sun wear so I replaced them. In keeping with what was originally on the rod I went with a clear amber wrap.

It's a really light action. Eventually I'll pair it with a micro light reel.

    I started with this...

...and now it looks like this.

I'll be done with it when the last two guides come in the mail.
It was/is a 1932 casting rod. So far I've stripped it, re-dipped it, wrapped the cork in rattan, flamed that, and added the abalone onlay.
I'm going to commit a heresy and mount a modern reel to it because I fish goofy footed and can't find a period casting reel with a left hand retrieve.

    Done.

I put markings for all of the limits and slot regulations for Georgia freshwater fish along the rod.

The old school top and agate guides.

How can we be sure those are agate guides and not standard porcelain?

Well, I know three are because I scavenged them off of wrecked fly rods. The others are original to the rod.

Very nice, Allen. This thread makes me really itch for spring in Ohio.

I'm thinking of putting 30-50 one pound size rainbow trout in the creek that runs through Springwood and catch them out with my dad over the next few months.

    Lordy that sounds nice.

Ever read the Curtis Creek Manifesto? If not, it's totally worth the ten bucks. It is hilarious.

No, I haven't. It's in my Amazon basket now.

I'm checking with the DNR to see if we are allowed to stock trout in our stream. So far there seem to be no restrictions for stocking private water in Georgia even though we are not in a trout county. They will go belly up when the water gets hot but I know my dad and he'll eat trout every day until they are gone.

Broke the new one in today.
According to the markings on the rod this one is just shy of 16 inches.

Took Pop fishing today at a pond a friend of his owns.
Keeping up with four 80+ year old WWII vets will wear one out.

Caught the largest bream I've seen in years.
Pop, slept on the bank and had a grand time. Then we ate in a real BBQ joint. A real BBQ joint has chopped pork and hardware supplies.

    We got nothing.

It is two feet deeper as of the last band of thunderstorms

And here is the owner of the boat, a Hurricane 196 with a 150 Johnson o/b enjoying time with his grandsons.

    Georgia Caviar

Caught a nice big trout today that was full of eggs.
Soaked them in brine and made caviar out of them.

    Before the brine.

The eggs separated from the skein and my two filets.

They are a beautiful yellow and have a nice pop and are quite salty.

I ened up with about an ounce.
