I think you should vacation at the SPAM factory with newbie LoriMoore.

Last summer my wife and I spent a few days at a B&B on Keuka Lake, in the Finger lakes region of NY. We went in August, the Temp where high 70's low 80's. The roads are great for riding. You can have it hilly, or relatively flat. If you ride parallel to the lakes, it will be flatter, ride perpendicular to the lakes you have to go over hills. There are tons of wineries to explore. And some good restaurants. The people are very, very nice. It was rare that a car or truck didn't give us as much room on the road as we needed.
The year before that we spent some time at a B&B on Lake Champlain. Temps are cooler than Texas in the summer, and there are good roads for riding. Burlington Vt. has good restaurants, and shopping, and is a nice little city. It has a bike shop, The Old Spokes Home, than has an antique bike museum. The folk there are nice, you can see the museum and they don't expect you to buy anything. And they are helpful with riding in the area. Once out of Burlington, the local folks are not very friendly, and will give you very little room on the road, if any. There were many folks from Canada riding there, and they were much nicer, friendlier, and courteous drivers than the locals. go figure.

And of course, there is always the Jersey Shore.

Another vote for Estes Park. Not only is RMNP gorgeous but by going there you could also be helping some of the businesses that were hit hard by the flood last Fall.

+1. Beautiful little town up there.

jsharr 04-30-14 12:42 PM

no vacation for me this year - hoping to change jobs and take a couple weeks off during the good weather to rejuvenate!

That's in the US?

Cool! I guess they decided to cede from Canada for a place with a wacko healthcare system (although it is saner recently, but this maybe fixed come next election cycle and get really stupid) and even wackier gun laws. Plus now they can make jokes about their 'frozen neighbors to the North'.

Well it's 3 years later, almost time for summer vacation, sounds like it would be fun to discuss vacation ideas again.

Mammoth Lakes is near the top of my list.

For our honeymoon in July, my ex wanted some place cool and green in California. First stop was Mammoth. She liked it so much that the rest of the trip got cancelled. We set up camp in a cabin on the lake instead.

We did a day trip to Yosemite, and came rushing back to Mammoth as quick as we could, too many crowds.
