Similar issues here. I recall banarjek participating in some old insomnia threads around here. *rube salutes* o7
I have narrowed down my sleeping disorders a little bit more. Aparently my sleep/awake cycles do not match a 24h day. Rather a 36h period. So, if I manage to sleep a "normal night" next day I won't be able to, no mater what. Then the 36h mark will hit me at work and I will go the rest of my day like a zombie on autopilot. Then I finally get home and I can barely function, yet spend 8 hours in bed looking at the ceiling. At that point I'm just afraid of falling asleep so hard that I might sleep through the beginning of my shift and be late next day... wash rinse repeat.
Sleeping pills don't help much. In fact, most are counter productive, making me twitchy instead of sleepy.
One curious thing I have noticed over the years is how my hearing become more sensitive, as hours of sleep decreases. Is like the "volume control" gets turn up a notch every few hours. Sometimes I'm able to clearly understand a dialog on the TV @ my neighbors, or a basketball bouncing in a car porch 5 houses away. In contrast, when fully rested, I can't hear crap.
