Looking to relocate to Asheville, NC

Currently in Columbus, OH, but I wanna get the hell out of here. Need to find a job and a place to live. What parts of Asheville should I look at and what parts should I avoid? I'd like to be able to walk or bike to most places I need. My current apartment search is revolving around the Whole Foods on Merrimon Ave, heh.

Get an extra bedroom or two. I'll bring some hikers down for trips to the Smokey Mountains and we'll need a place to crash just before and a place to shower coming out.

We'll bring the beer.

I would love to live in Asheville NC. Nice mountains nearby (Mt. Mitchell), and I like to climb.

Asheville is sort of full of weirdos. Problem is... with weirdos you generally find good beer. The sacrifices we must make for good beer....

I have no problem sacrificing for good beer! And maybe I'm a weirdo, too?

Heh. I'm at least 50% German and I'm not into Schmidt's. Or German food in general, really. Hate saurkraut. I'm a bad German.

Weren't you just asking about moving to a more bicycle friendly place this summer?

Just got here last Sat. Other stuff you should know about biking around the Greenville area:

I've seen few bike lanes. And the roads I've encountered have little to no room for bikes. The main drags through residential areas (at least around my apt) are 35mph speed limit. I hope this is the exception. Get out in the sticks and it's pretty much as safe as anywhere else. The area has been growing like mad for 10+ years. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a step in the right direction. I hear that will be expanded.

Not really in any field. I have a Creative Writing degree. It's like going to school to master a hobby. So I'm pretty open. My only job lead so far is in Sterling, VA, where I have an interview next week.
