First, apparently my college-aged coworkers here in Bellingham are capable of having a very mature political discussion, despite having a pretty wide variety of views. Yet when I lived in TN, my 40+ year old coworkers were incapable of discussing politics without being racist and/or acting like children, EVEN THOUGH THEY ALL AGREED WITH EACH OTHER.

Secondly, my computer wouldn't boot this morning which terrified me because I have a lot of drawings on it which I haven't copied to my laptop in case of emergencies. That would be a LOT of work down the drain. When I got home from work today it still wouldn't boot at first, but it finally did. So if nothing else at least I have the chance to back everything up before it completely goes south.

Sorry to hear that... I know the feeling. It's been a pretty crummy year for a lot of people I know (myself included). Hope things turn around for you soon.

Darn Comcast keeps cutting out during Andy Griffith. Avoid them like the plague. Unfortunately they're my only option in this area since it's fairly newly developed... despite the fact that there's a big AT&T station just down the road. I had them before and was far more satisfied.

Lamplight... Power supply maybe.. if it won't turn on when you press the button. I've seen countless people toss computers that probably just needed a power supply, myself included, before I realized that they're pretty much the weak point of computers. Cold temperatures and power surges will kill them right quick... and they just wear out sometimes.

Power supplies are a really common issue and IIRC Lampy has a fairly new machine that may have come with a substandard power supply... a better one is not a very expensive upgrade and installation is a DIY thing if that is what is needed.

My PC was having issues with this and it stemmed from a bad SATA socket and a motherboard that is known to be narcoleptic... removing the bad socket and upgrading to Win8 seems to have corrected the power management... I also have a new power supply.

For Lampy I would suggest that he disables the sleep / idle in the power management if it causes issues.

This server intrusion detection system is driving me batty. Someday, I will get it to tell the difference between a log rotation and scurillous activity.

Also, can anyone tell me the average size of a garbage disposal jam wrench? It looks like any old Allen wrench to me, but I'd love to have someone help me narrow it down before I bring in 73 different allen wrenches to try tonight.

Since I managed to get it booted yesterday evening I've just left it on. Below the power button there's another LED that normally flickers as the computer boots up. Well the light on the power button was coming on, and I could hear the computer doing something, but that other light wasn't flickering and when I'd turn on my monitor it would immediately go into "powersave mode", as if the computer wasn't turned on. I'm not quite as worried now since I managed to back everything up yesterday.

I've left the computer on since yesterday evening, and I have it set to go into idle after a certain amount of time. That doesn't seem to be a problem for it (so far), it just wouldn't start up when I completely shut the machine down.

Sounds like it's behaving how mine did when the PS failed.

Been laying in bed hungover all day. Modern Marvels marathon on history for the win... Which just ended, darn. Oh well, back to the Rockford Files on netflix. If you are male you need to watch that show if you haven't.

Hungover? That's not a good sign.

The more spit you get on the cake when you blow out the candles, the less cake you have to share.

Beautiful winter morning here... and sometime during the night or early morning the snow gnomes must have come by because all my walks are cleared.

Wow.

Archery tournament this weekend.
I fell apart last night, and did a bit better today. Shot 802 out of a possible 1200.
Probably not gonna win anything with that....but it was an experience and kind of fun.

Caffienation in progress and mystery of the snow has been solved... my old housemate (who now lives in the suite downstairs) had some insomnia and after seeing my nearly 70 year old neighbour out shovelling her snow he felt inspired.

He should not be shovelling snow (neither should I) but sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do.

Also... was just given a set of Nokians (on rims) for my car.

Suhweet.

I don't know why I can't find a pair of semi-dressy brown leather shoes that are actually comfortable. I just wore my new shoes to walk to the barber shop. When I got back my heels were bleeding and the pain was so bad I was light headed. And these are BETTER than my last pair.

I am pretty partial to my Doc Martens and my dressier walking boots... find them to be much more comfortable than shoes and drier in wet weather.

The Docs are supremely comfortable but are a warm weather boot... the sole is not designed for cold temperatures and loses all it's cushion when it is frozen while my other boots are designed for Canada and remain supple at extreme temperatures.

Best shoes I have ever owned are my Merrel barefoot shoes (I have three pairs)... they make a nice leather version.

I have the previous model which has a brushed finish and with wool socks can wear them outside at some pretty cold temperatures and they nice to cycle in too.
