You and your wife will be in my thoughts... my wife has had some health challenges throughout our time together and we have seen them through.

We are waiting on some test results now as her annual cancer screening showed some small abnormalities that are probably nothing... but I have never been more afraid of anything in my life as if it is something... it could be something that is very bad.

We've gone through this a few times... I probably won't sleep much until we know.

Gitarzan, I've been thinking of you and your wife. My mother's not doing too well these days either -- not physically, but her head is just not what it was. I come across old emails from her and it's shocking to realize how much more clouded her conversation is now... and she rarely writes anything anymore. It's hard to see these things happen to people you love. Hoping for the best for the two of you.

Just waiting to drive up to SFO to get the inlaws. I go back to work for a while on Monday... I plan on napping in my office ALL DAY.

Great Day!

1. Wife got out of hospital last night. She's doing better than she has for MONTHS! She felt great today, and that makes me happy.

2. My first day off of work since October, other than sick days, family crisis days, etc.

3. Damn fine weather today.

4. My boat got delivered today! The boat is a 20 foot pontoon, docked on a great fishing lake. Here's a picture with my first mate. I'm naming the boat Dita Rose. That's her family's knickname for her. When she was a toddler that was how she pronounced her name, Lisa Rose.

Glad to see things are going your (and your wife's) way, gitarzan.

I'm giving my Univega a long overdue overhaul. It's currently stripped down to the frame (with the headset cups still in place), and I believe this is the first time I've ever had it torn down this far at once. It's made from Tange Champion tubing, and the rear of this frame is surprisingly heavy, while the front triangle is surprisingly light. That works out well though, because the fork probably weighs almost as much as the frame. I have a box of goodies that's supposed to be delivered today, and if that happens I'll have a lot of work to do on the bike.

Edit: Also, I love old Suntour parts.

Out for a ride in the rain and snow, everyone should know that vikings on their longbikes are fuelled by coffee.

Lampy, will look forward to seeing the 'vega when it comes back to life.

Sixty, it'll still be a bit before the complete transformation; I opened up my box of goodies and my brand new Honjo fenders were bent. BADLY. The box looked fine on the outside, so I'm hoping I can return them for a good set. The good news is, I only bought new fenders because I wanted to change the look a little, and I felt I could do a better job of mounting them this time. The other items should actually improve the ride of the bike a little, and overall that's more important. Plus I can just remount my old Honjos until the bent ones are replaced, so at least I won't be fenderless. And regardless, everything's getting cleaned a lubed, a new chain and all new cables, so it should be a pleasant ride.

It is always good to know that I at least have one person that will pick me up from jail. If he isn't there with me that is.

Spent Saturday evening and most of Sunday in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, famous for its rice wines (which I will not be drinking again for a while...). From this afternoon:

It was an April fools I played. He thought I was going to get pulled over on my way home and I said I'd text him when I'm there. I just sent him "f***". and left went about the house doing things and I come to my phone with 4 missed calls a voice mail and a bunch of texts.

I emailed Velo Orange about returning my bent Honjo fenders, and they responded very quickly with, "Sure, send them back and we'll replace them." No questions asked. Having worked for years in shipping and receiving and having dealt with damaged shipments on a weekly basis, this really surprised and impressed me. Every other company I've ever dealt with went out of their way to avoid replacing damaged products.

Guilty because your wife is home with the kids, or guilty because you stole someone's Yoo Hoo?

The former. But at least she has her parents for two weeks.

I'm thinking of starting a website. The domain name is available, but I don't really know how to go about it besides registering the name. A friend of mine uses Godaddy and this site. Anyone have any better suggestions for a complete novice?

Godaddy is ok. I like HostGator.

Both have a bunch of apps to make it easy. Using the wordpress app, I fleshed this site out in an hour or two: http://brookhaven72.org/

And I pay only a couple bucks a month.

So I'm assuming you pay the yearly fee just for the name, and then a monthly fee for the actual web hosting, even if both are through the same site?
