I'm not sure who invented the all day meeting as a way to help teachers develop professionally, but I'm pretty sure that after 35 minutes I had checked out for the day. Here's a rundown for all you non-teaching types...School administrators take turns talking about what a great job we're doing as a district, thus justifying their own jobs. Union prez shows a silly video he taped this summer showing us how much our community supports us. Everyone gets a water bottle from one of our sponsors...wait!...we have corporate sponsors? Where are they when we need supplies for our classrooms? :notamused: Break for lunch. Return to building where we are subjected to 5 more hours of this stuff...What color is your personality? Team-building. Review of our final school improvement plan from the end of last year (that we talked about at our last staff meeting of last school year). :notamused: Explain the new curriculum that all students will be required to have 3 years of instruction in so we can justify the creation of new positions when our budget has been cut drastically.

Tomorrow, I get to have meeting time with my team and content area colleagues. 1 hour each. :wtf: Wouldn't it have made more sense spending all day today working with those individuals.

Wow. Apparently my last post gave this thread cooties and no one wants to touch it again. *shrug* Perhaps I can turn it into a Pcad-like thread.

Ready for the first day of school.

I play cards with a couple young HS math teachers. They have the same complaints. I'm hoping they don't get burned out by the system and quit.

The surf is pounding - breaking over the breakwaters and shooting up through the pier. Naturally the breakwaters and pier are full of people watching the surf.

It wasn't a good idea to run underground electrical cables at 0 elevation. The run-up is filling the junction boxes.

Did Matt walk you to school and send you off with a hug and a kiss ?

My girls went back on Monday and although they are with their mom this week have stopped by a few times on their way home after school to make sure that their dad's power level does not drop too low.

Random hugs are good.

Your Friday might come earlier there, but so does your Monday. :P

Not this week. On the first day with students, he will drive me to school and he and the kiddos will walk me to my class. In the middle of winter on stormy days and when the roads are bad, he drives us to school to make sure we arrive safely. I <3 my husband. :)

Just got home from School Night for Scouting. Had a HUGE turnout. Got 9 first graders to join the pack and had new scouts join at every level. The leadership turned out in number to support the event and to promote the event. It really is humbling to work with such a great group of volunteer leaders.

Isn't this the last weekend for lifeguards at most of the beaches? They're going to keep busy.

A lot of them go back to school. They'll close towers at the lesser used locations but keep all the trucks staffed. Today they had guys patrolling on PWCs and boats.

There were no surfers out this morning so a few guys surfed the harbor on PWCs. It looked awesome. They must have been pros.

Just a half day of work and I'm off to the Four Corners Folk Festival for the weekend.

My boss is running the VIP area so I volunteered to work two shifts, giving me a "free" pass for the entire weekend, including food and beverages. Rain is predicted.

Holy mother, it's friggen hot! I don't know how all you texicans survived so many 100 degree days in TX this summer. The worst of it is the humidity. It feels like you are walking into a fiery wall when you step outside. We, the people of Michigan, are not cut out for blazing hot.

Don't think it'll work on people, though.

I've been debating Advantage or Advantix, or China Mart's Petarmor. I'm tired of dishing out ~$80 for a 3-month suppy for two dogs' new flea/tick dope that doesn't do squat except drain my wallet. FTR, Frontline is effing worthless in S.C. Will be bathing both hounds again tonight. Can't treat them with anything for a couple weeks, till the Frontline "wears off" :(

Celebrating the start of a 3-day weekend, and a dead rat that will no longer be eating my apple tree.

It doesn't hurt that HP's implementation of autocorrect is a lot more useful and a lot less neurotic and unpredictable than the one in iOS seems to be.

Actually, I'm using an Acer iconia a100, but the screen touch sensitivy doesn't seem to be too good and I keep pressing the wrong buttons.
Then again, it is the cheapest 7" tablet with no contract.

What's more, it doesn't have auto spelling but it does seem to have auto piunctuation.

Wendy's in Clayton, Georgia has one hell of a wifi broadcaster. I'm picking up 4 out of 5 bars of signal from my motel room across a busy highway.

CbadRider 09-03-11 01:43 PM

I just put a pork loin roast into the smoker. I'm following Tom's recipe so I hope it turns out as well as his did.
