How to admit you made an error.

So maybe you said something you thought was true because perhaps your heard it from someone you trusted, or perhaps you put two and two together and forgot about some other variable, and then mentioned it on the internet....

And then someone calls you out on it, possibly with proof.

Step 1. Do not look at this as an opportunity to continue to defend your position.
Step 2. Try to have a sense of humor.
Step 3. Try to realize that, deep down, you know you were wrong
Step 4. Swallow Ego.
Step 5. Admit it. Say "Oops" or something. It won't hurt that much.

(and please don't bother with the cockamamie excuses like "my dog ate my brain cells" or "I was too busy doing intervals to think clearly" or whatever)

Is there a point to this?
Are you trying to tell us something?

Heard it from another you been messin' around

ADMIT I WAS WRONG? Over the years it has gotten to be easier and easier to admit, especially since I got married. I can't remember being right very often since that day.

I thought there was a point to this thread.

I admit it.

I was wrong.

I'm sorry.

How 'bout my dog ate my intervals because I was busy thinking clearly? Ummm, yeah.

True...but it makes for less than a page. Certainly no fun for the 41

If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one around to hear it, yes, the man is still wrong.

I have no idea where this thread came from and I'm not trying to be rude to you at all OP, but I have to say it. It is just too easy because of the OP's username.

Grumpy much?

When it comes to admitting mistakes, I've had plenty of opportunities, but very little actual practice.

My momma taught me long ago that the three most beautiful words in the English language are "I was wrong".

You must grok the fullness of the situation, then praise and cherish the strange configuration of events lest they swallow you whole.
