well, it's a shame, but now we'll get to see how well apple will do on its own.

I have a feeling he's given input to the next couple of generations of Apple products since he knew his time was up. He even cooperated to produce his first authorized biography that will be published in November.

I was born in the same year the first Macintosh was introduced (1983).
I lived to witness all the extra ordinary inventions that came out during his tenure at Apple.

For all that I'm extremely happy

Me too. I'm a pretty devoted apple fan too. 2008 Macbook Pro, iPod 160 gig (I LOVE this), iPad 2, iPhone 4.... never been disappointed since I switched over. May he rest in peace.

I partially blame the NeXT for my love of UNIX. SO much cooler than the Suns we had in the lab... and this was in 1995-7, when the NeXTs were pretty old. But come on, NeXTStep v. OpenWindows in the Sun labs v. System 7 in the Mac Labs v. Windows 3.1 in the PC labs was no contest. I know which lab I prefered to work in.
