Favorite Cocktail

Yah know, beer's good and all, but all those calories! When I want to get a good buzz on little calories, I head to my old standby cocktails. For the spring and summer it's a Tanqueray or Beefeater martini--just enough vermouth to rinse the ice and shaken, never stirred. Up with an olive.

Fall and Winter call for a Manhattan, 2 parts rye whiskey, 1 part sweet vermouth, a drop of cherry juice, and a couple shakes of bitters, all shaken over ice. Up with a cherry:

Yum! What's your favorite?

Margaritas - shaken, not the frozen blended kind that look like lime Icees.

Martinis with vodka (don't like gin). Cosmopolitan, French martini, lemon drop, apple; in other words, frou-frou martinis.

I can't stand anything beyond margaritas. Though I did have a cosmo once that knocked my socks off.
Beer and maybe a shot if anything.

Winter drinks:
La Cucaracha--1 part brandy to 1 part Kahlúa in a brandy snifter. Spark the brandy and rotate the glass for a moment. Blow out the flame, enjoy.

Hot Buttered Rum--Hot apple cider in a mug with a cinnamon stirrer, a shot or two of dark rum, and a pat of butter melting on top.

German beer in a stein.

Rum, rum, and more rum. I use the stone cubes for chilling, with one ice cube to open it up. Stay away from any Bacardi product, find some Venezuelan, or far west Caribbean island manufacturers. Ron Pampero, Mt. Gay, Ron Matusalem, Zacapa, Sea Wynde, Diplimatico, many, many more if you're interested.

gin & tonic

or the Midwestern version of an Old Fashioned:

whiskey or brandy
sweet or sour mix (such as 7-up or Squirt)
a few shakes of Angostura bitters
garnish? (I don't need no stinkin' garnish)

For shooting flames? I have unfond memories of drinking jungle juice in college. Lots of Hawaiian punch with everclear in it. Cheap way to get blitzed.

Nowadays -
margaritas and scotch on the rocks. I like the occasional white russian also : 1 part vodka, 1 part Kahlua, pour over ice and top with cream. Not exactly low-cal though. A black russian isn't bad either - just equal parts vodka and kahlua.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Gin and Tonic (Sapphire Bombay Gin) as well, or Stoli and Tonic, or Grey Goose and Tonic.

Latte laced with Brandy, or a VSOP Cognac in a nice snifter with a pipe or cigar.

Currently imbibing a V-8 juice based Bloody Mary.

I am not conservative in most of my life choices but when it comes to consuming alcohol I'm a no frills kinda guy. Do Not Offer Me an Appletini. Or a Cosmopolitan. Or a "shooter" because I'm likely to get rude. And if I see someone take a decent bourbon or rum and mix it with Coca Cola or Pepsi or - Heaven Forbid a diet version of those - I might just go postal.

I like fairly good liquor served as it comes out of the bottle. Maybe an ice cube or two with gin.

I'm not a wino. I'll drink anything.

But I work with websites and some of the problems inspired the web developer's cocktail. Take 4 ounces (adjust to suit) of brandy and pour it into a blender. Add an aspirin and a Tylenol (adjust for the occasion), blend, sit back relax and enjoy.
