It's not cool to be a nerd...

At least, that's the jist in modern dating. Women are turned off by nerds and guys with intelligent jobs. So if you're out on a date and you want to lie about what you do for a living, what's a good career to pick?

Why would you want to start out a potential relationship based upon a lie?

Some obscure law enforcement job. That way you won't get caught by conversation. Everything can be "classified" and can't be discussed. I work with a guy that uses that line all over the world. Seems to work. At least for the kind of "relationship" he is after.

It helps to be good looking, rich and self-confident. Real simple.

I'm usually a smart ass about this kind of stuff...but this time, I'll just be honest and simple about it. Be yourself...it will take you further than you think. Also, perhaps you need to look at a different kind of woman/girl if all you are getting is rejection because your a nerd. There are plenty of women who like an intelligent man.

Haha...I'm basically getting a James Bond vibe from the suggestions here. I initially had in mind some obscure management-type position.

"Be yourself" is a terrible suggestion. Women don't want men that are themselves, they want men that match the images they have in their minds. Duh.

Every good relationship is built on a solid foundation of lies. ;P

Poppycock, the number one thing they want to see is someone who's comfortable in their own skin. As a rule women find self-confidence very attractive.

Always be yourself as it will eventually come out despite your best attempts to imitate Sean Connery. It also helps to date other nerds.

I tell people I'm an Architect Intern. Then they respond, 'Ooooh, so you'll make lots of money!'. I'm then forced to lower my head and admit that no... I will not be making lots of money. The conversation usually ends there.

Moral of the story, perhaps I should perpetuate the rumor that Architects make lots of money. Then the dates would be rolling in.

Winner!!!!

I'm proud of the fact that I'm an engineer, and if she isn't impressed by my ability to recite pi to 15 decimal places, solve most differential equations without resorting to Laplace transforms, and clear a Rubik's cube in under a minute then obviously there's no future for us..... I'd rather watch ST-TNG reruns alone rather than compromise my principles.

The OP has a good point about women not wanting to date a nerdy guy. In fact, even the nerdiest women don't want to date a nerdy guy. It's really sad.

So, when I met my wife, I told her I was a famous muscian, but only famous to those specific to what I did. It was partly true...friends of my students actually asked for autographs more than once, and my students' moms tried to throw themselves on me after recitals!

I knew a guy in college that drove a chevette....his pickup line was "wanna go for a ride in my 'vette'?". It usually worked till they got to the parking lot.

Tell her that you're a multi-billionaire hedge fund manager and you just dress that way and drive the s***box car to avoid Occupy Wall Street protesters.

If she looks pleased, you know you've got a guaranteed gold digger. If she is appalled, you have a real woman. If she looks at you with a confused stare, you know she's a sheeple and will torture you with hours of conversation about how the Kardashians are doing and who's winning American Idol.

Where are you meeting these women?

*fingers Xena, Warrior Princess "chakram" earrings and looks at Star Trek talking communicator pin stuck to cubicle wall*

I was serious about the Starfleet officer.
