President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

Are Christmas Trees really going for $50 nowadays? Back when I was a kid (ok so that was like 20 years ago), we used to get them direct from the tree farm a mile or two away for $10-15 depending on height and fullness and type.

$50-$80 for a 7-9 footer cut it yourself around here

Or something like $5 for a permit into the national forest; they aren't planted in rows to conveniently shop through though.
