Making changes over to Apple starting with iPad and iPhone

So a couple of weeks ago I bought my 1st iPad 64G in black. I have had my iPhone 4 for about a year now. It took a little getting use to but it is a wonderfully device. Last Friday I bought another iPad 32G for one of my employees with a survivor indestructible case (long story) I think tomorrow I will be upgrading to the iPhone 4S because my assistant who hates her Blackberry would like my current iPhone. I will never be able to leave the pc world behind but I am finding these Apple devices very user friendly. The business world seems to be too deeply intrenched into pc's and windows but the iPad is a great addition to my work and home devices. I so love gagets

I am not a gaget person but I love my iPad. Although I just got my iPad, I bought a MacBook Pro about a year ago and I am still on a learning curve. I have been PCd for so many years I am struggling with retraining. All in all I think Apple products are superior to PCs.

Regardless of whitch is better Apple or PCs for the most part business drank the PC coolaid. Apple devices will be companion devices in Buisiness for some time I think. I for 1 am going to introduce them into my work as much as I can. The iPhone is easy because people clearly love them and the business apps are wonderful. The iPhone camera with the scanning apps are the best of the best. I'm a big fan of user friendly and Apple has that going for it.

Yeah, Apple doesn't really cater to businesses that need to, for instance, outfit a cubical farm. For many uses, businesses are looking for basic, easy to maintain computers for $400 (less than that with volume discount).

Keeping the OS up to date is more expensive also. So far I've only encountered one program that claims not to run on Windows XP. XP came out in 2001! An OSX user would've had to pay to upgrade a couple of kitty cats over that time. Thankfully they decreased the MSRP for a new kitty cat from $120 to $30 a couple of years ago so it's gotten much better.

Apple is definitely ruling the tablet market at the moment, though.

I agree. I love my iPhone because I don't need to read a user manual to know how to make it work. I had an LG Dare phone before I got my iPhone and I absolutely hated it. It had the worst user interface I've ever seen.

That's good because I have not been able to find a decent manual for mine yet. I was trying to read how to do something and every manual or tutorial I found on the net said to do it differently. For instance it said to push the "SMS" button, but there is no SMS button anywhere on my phone. The screenshot with the tutorial clearly showed a button with "SMS" on it. I don't know if that means I have a newer or older phone than the manual is based on.

I doubt it. Jobs thought small tablets were losers. He was correct for a number of reasons. I think it's more likely you'll see a larger iPad before you see a smaller one. At the end of the day if there is widespread adoption of smaller Android tablets, Apple may jump in to compete in that segment, but that remains to be seen.

There are times when I think an iPad might be right for me, and I can definitely see the appeal after playing with them in stores a few times. But so far I've stayed away from them after my experience a few months ago with a Macbook Pro I briefly owned. I loved the build quality, the look, and the feel, but I simply could not get used to the operating system. I thought I'd get used to it with time, but the more I used it the less intuitive it was to me. Eventually I just gave up and got rid of it, replacing it with a HP laptop. The HP's build quality is pathetic in comparison, but at least I can use it easily.

FWIW, I've had my iMac for 2 years now, but still miss the familiarity of certain tasks on a windows box simply cuz that's what I put up with for so long.

I've still considered giving it another try. The build quality, the excellent display...I liked everything about it except actually using it. Another thing is that I couldn't get my version of Photoshop to work on it, and I wasn't thrilled about spending the money to replace that.

I went with Apple and I haven't looked back. I have a 2007 MacBook, 2010 MacBook Pro, 2004 20GB iPod Clickwheel, 1st gen iPhone, iPhone 3GS, iBook G4, another 2007 MacBook, two 1999 iMac G3's. Love the UI of all their devices. I will be going back to my 1st gen iPhone because it is unlocked and I am going to Israel soon, so I need a phone that will accept a foreign SIM card.

I certainly love the devices I have & in a lot of aplications find them preferable. It has always been clear that the PC is a device I will never be able to abandon. I work off a terminal server through a VPN & I also have many overseas customers. For me apple seems to be a companion device for work & one that has made a lot of things very convenient. Email access through both the iPad & iPhone is the best. Business cards, contacts, calendars, reminders, are without question best done with these devices. The iPad I origionaly thought was a fad device but every time I went by a display I would pic it up and play with it. Now that I finaly have one it is my favored device to use.

one thing the ipad is lagging behind in is the resolution department.
1024x600 in 7"
1280x800 in 10"
for android and others
vs.
1024x768 in 10"
for ipads.

Now, I have to say, the image quality is fine for HD playback, even if the screens for the ipad and 7" droids are not true HD resolutions, but it never hurts to up the resolution, especially when using them to read.

I bought an iPad2 a couple of months ago thinking I could do some of my daily work duties on it, boy was I wrong. I can't even access our VPN with it. I still can't figure out how to print to a local printer and accessing MS Office docs is impossible. I bought an app called Docs to Go which supposedly can read MS Office docs. Still trying to get that to work!

But I will have to say it's a pretty nice internet surfing device and I can even access my e-mail at work via the internet.

I bought my iPad knowing I wouldn't be able to log into the server. I have spent a lot of time working remotely from my home office. My company will not add the expence of making the VPN compatable with Apple simply because there are not enough users of that system. Apple is comparable with a VPN but the system has to be enabled at an expence to the company.

As far as printing is concerned you need an air comparable printer. HP makes a comparable photo printer for $159.00 And there is an app as well. I'm not sure office programs,

For a vision of that that (near) future might look like with respect to tablets, see the 2002 scifi film 'Minority Report'.

knowing apple, instead of upping the size of the tablet itself, they'll probably reduce the width of the edges.
either that, or they'll have to redesign the on-screen keyboard, because it's already slightly difficult to hit those center keys in landscape mode.

It should be entirely possible to squeeze in 11.6" of screen space, with some room left over for the camera, in its current size. my 12" lenovo netbook is very close to the size of a 8.5" x 11" paper and it still has some room left over at the edges, so apple should be able to do much better.
