IRC chat now?

I searched for 'IRC Chat', and a few old topics came up, however, I tried the channels listed, and they didn't seem to be registered.

Maybe one of the admins/mods could set up a sticky thread about the IRC channel, so that more people would join it?

The channels i saw seem to be:

#mtb on irc.luniticfringe.net
#bikeforums on irc.gamesnet.net, and irc.gamesurge.net

Maybe if we set up a chat room, there'll be less one-liner, borderline pointless threads made, since the people can (theoretically) just ask on IRC

Thoughts?

Why reduce traffic to a website? Thats how any revenue is made, and with costs of the hosting this site, I assume joe wants traffic coming here.

OK, scratch the reducing forum use idea - it'd still be good to have, wouldn't it?

One forum I've been at for a long time, the chat room is basically the main community for the forum... the admin is having trouble keeping up the server, as the site was built around a game released almost 5 years ago - Midtown Madness 2.

Not that I'm wishing that on here or anything... The forum, let alone the internet weren't even close to being around when cycling was invented

We used to have one here. I'll ask Joe about if and when he's going to start it up again.

And thats why if it were my site I wouldn't do it. Live chat is always more convenient than bbs's.

It wasn't ery popular though, I don't think. They used a chat program. I could never be bothered going in. It always ended up being mundane conversation instead of actual bike talk. If I wanted mundane conversation Iwould go to the bar...

IT was popular, as long as the chats were announced beforehand. But the chat program was pretty basic, and I think it would have been a nicer chat program if people could have branched off into different groups for their conversations. Everyone always talked all at once, and you couldn't keep up. Eventually, it got confusing. You could always do one-on-one conversations, which it how I usually ended up chatting, but then your name would still be registering as in the chat room, and then people would be wondering what's up with you and where you were.

I still would like to see a MSN-type chat room around where folks could get online and people could do multiple conversations.

I think people just use MSN messenger or AOL Instant Messenger now. IRC is over.

I can't seem to get on Undernet atm... says 'Please install Identd to use this server'.

I can connect to most servers without problems, maybe this one is odd?

Bad experiences on IRC. MSN and Yahoo are much better.

I remember what a thrill it was to play Pong on my Commodore 64. IRC seems to have moved into faded memory too. It's a shame because I really loved it, but the thrill is gone.
